State 6th forms in central/SW London

DS is at Holland Park School in Year 10 and doesn't want to stay on for sixth form (the school has all sorts of problems although the new Head is beginning to turn it around). He is bright (already got 3 GCSEs at grade 9 and on course for 8 more top grades) and will want to apply to Oxbridge. With that in mind, we were thinking Harris Westminster or Tiffin? Chestnut Grove is also a lovely school - and less of a hot house! Any further suggestions would be most welcome. We live in SW11

Not SW London as such but lots go to Esher College from
SW London state and private schools.

Have you checked your straight line distance to Tiffin? SW11 will be right on the border of the 14km priority area, which will make a real difference to his chances of getting in.

@PatriciaHolm Good point. Just checked - 10.03km. Phew!
@woohooho Never occurred to me. But Thames Ditton is only 25 mins on the train from Clapham Junction so definitely an option. Thanks.

The selective options for boys are fewer than for girls. If he wants to do maths and physics then King's Maths School is an option, though he'd stand a much better chance if he can tick any of their "widening participation" criteria - the admissions tests are heavily weighted by them.

What is your dc thinking? At 16 they complete the transfer documents not you, you need to discuss where they would like to consider and where there may actually be places, what is your catchment 6th form?

Many parents fill in the application forms or else support their children to fill them in. Just because they're written in a style that encourages you to think the children are meant to fill it in themselves, doesn't mean they actually do, or should. Some of the forms, and the admissions policies and processes, are quite complex.

@Fishingforhelp what school have you decided on in the end? How is the situation at HP 6form? I’ve heard their 2023 results were very good.
