The months/years of uncertainty are over ... so why am I so reluctant to return form to accept the place

Ds1 has been offered a place at the local independent school.

LEA allocations are not through until early March, but our chances of getting into the one school we would consider are very slim, and we have agreed we think he'd be happier at the independent one anyway.

So how come I can't bring myself to fill in and return the slip? Maybe it's just the financial implications that are weighing heavily atm.

Has anyone else felt like this?

Yes! It's that knowledge that you're stepping onto a treadmill.

That said, my son has been so happy since he moved to the independent I don't begrudge a penny.

I expected it to feel like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders/a big relief. It all just feels like an anti-climax.

Well done to your ds roisin . Do you have to return the form right away? Why not wait until you find out what the choice really is and decide then? We went and visited both schools again after we'd had our offers and actually asked for an extended deadline to accept as we were so unsure. That did help us to confirm our thoughts and make the choice. I don't think the school minded either. If anything it made them take extra care with ds when he arrived - I think they wanted to be sure he felt he'd made the right choice too.

I know that if we phone up and ask for an extension they'll agree. (Slip actually says return by 15 Feb).

But actually our minds are made up already, and - despite the cost - we've decided that's where we want him to go. So it seems churlish to put it off.

If you're definitely decided then just do it! I'm sure it will be fine.

We felt like this with our third. Didn't retrurn the form till the day after it had to be back. Have to say we were relieved she didn't get into the grammar. If you think this is the right school for him, then go for it. You'll feel better once the form's handed in.
