4 A Levels?

DC in year 11 - surprised at how many of their friends have applied to do 4 A levels. If degree courses only want 3 why risk compromising grades by doing more? DC's inclination is for 3 A levels plus EPQ - if your child is doing 4, why so?

Er because they learn more?

A-levels weren’t originally all about impressing university admissions tutors.

Some students still 😱 actually want to learn.

This! Some children are interested in lots of subjects and enjoy learning. A levels aren't just a means to an end. They have value in themselves.

My son is doing 2 sciences, Maths and further maths. He did think about doing 2 sciences Maths and French but school thought that would be too much. They have a 5th block where they do EPQ, DofE, sport, volunteering etc and they suggested he chose something low effort for that block. If you do 3 A-levels they would encourage something that leads to another qualification but you’d have one block free to study.

I have a niece and nephew both starting with 4 in September. My niece is unsure between two uni courses at the moment and needs to keep her options open. She can drop one later. My nephew is doing Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Computer Science - his school will only let you do FM as a 4th a level.
