Any feedback on these schools for my dd who has had some friendship issues in year 6…
My dd has had scholarship interviews for Alleyns and St D and will hopefully get 11*offers from 2-3 of the schools. Wondering which would be most nurturing…Thank you in advance

Can you say more about what type of friendship issues your DS has had? What type of school do you think she would be happiest at? Coed Vs single sex?

Sorry, meant to type *your DD!

I suspect St Dunstan’s may be the most nurturing from what friends of mine with children there have said.

I have a DS at Alleyn’s. He is very happy in the rather loud, busy environment but I am not sure I would call it particularly nurturing.

The Head of St Dunstan’s is incredibly impressive and has really put lots of thought and effort into improving standards and the running the school.

as your DD sounds likely to get scholarship offers, The academic scholarship programme St D’s offers is incredible with weekly teas, scholarship projects and mentoring. Alleyns do not offer those with academic scholarships anything extra unless they are one of the few Saddlers Scholars who I think meet once a year. My DS in the Middle School now was given an academic scholarship but has never even had any meeting with the other academic scholars in his year. No talks or special mentoring at all. Nothing like what the St D’s scholars receive.

Thanks for the messages. She’s just had a bit of leaving out/you can’t play with us. Generally being a bit excluded. Her ‘best friend’ has become close to another and she’s struggling to find her place.
St Ds scholarship prog sounds amazing…are lessons challenging too? Alleyns and Jags are regarded as more academic…not sure if this is still the case? Anyone have a dd at jags? Is it nurturing? I’ve heard the head is great. Thanks

I have a DD at Alleyns. I’d say the intake at Jags and Alleyns is more able than at St Dunstans but it sounds like St Dunstans is doing a great job at stretching its most able students.

I have friends with children at all schools and everyone is very pleased. I’d say I’m general co-Ed environments can be a little easier than all-girls for the friendship issues.

I’d go with your gut on this one based on the feeling you got when visiting

I don’t know about the academic scholarship programme at these schools but I would hope that all children that have the aptitude for a subject are stretched* etc and mentored, not just those that scored highly at the 11+. Perhaps that’s why JAGS/Alleyn’s don’t have such a scheme?

*(equally, those that find a subject challenging are supported)
