On private side - Bristol Grammar School, QEH, Clifton College are all good

BCCS sixth form is excellent, high standards and expectations but caring.

Is this for September 2023? You may have missed the application deadline for some sixth forms.
You need to have taken GCSEs or iGCSEs to qualify for a place. Places are conditional on GCSE or iGCSE results.
State options North Bristol post 16 (2 sites at Redland Green and Cotham)
St Mary Redcliffe and Temple sixth form
Bristol Cathedral choir school
if your son has not taken GCSEs, which may be the case given your username St Brendans sixth form college have 3 year courses which allow pupils to sit GCSEs and level 2 qualifications in the first year.

Thanks to all. My son will take GCSE next year & I want to do some research to know more about the school.

School will base on GCSE result to offer a place? Do they need an interview?
Thank you.

You apply directly to the sixth form before you have your results. It's usual to apply to several sixth forms.
Once you have your GCSE results then your place will be confirmed.
It's not just results though. State sixth forms may have other criteria as well e.g. whether you attended the school from Y7 and the distance between your home address and the sixth form.

LoveHK · 30/01/2023 14:34

Thank you catndogslife, it means if my son not study the school from Y7 & school is not near home, the chance will be less or not accept the application?

It depends on the number of pupils wishing to take that subject at A level. So the extra criteria are applied if more pupils want to take a particular subject than the number of places available. Sometimes it's possible to swap subjects on results day. Plenty of children move schools at sixth form, so there are likely to be places available.
For Maths at A level you can take 2 subjects: Maths and Further Maths.
The oversubscription criteria for sixth form entry will be on the school or college websites.

Some sixth forms will only allow them to take maths if they have a certain grade at GCSE (eg a 7) which is a good thing.
My dc got a sixth form place at BCCS even though we live quite far away and no connection to the lower part of the school.
Look out for the sixth form open days in September /October of year 11, and take note of deadlines for application. Apply to a few.

Thanks to all.
Is BCCS strong at Maths? My fd told me that different school is strong in different subject.
Besides BCCS, any other state school recommended? Thank you!
