Ofsted report delayed?

12 replies

Rugbyfield · 26/01/2023 10:34

My DSs school was inspected and then DDs school was inspected over a week later.

DDs school published the result a few days ago and now the report is on the gov website.
There has been no news from DSs school.
One school is independent the other is state but both inspected by Ofsted - is that likely to have an impact?

Was one a short inspection and one a full inspection??

Rugbyfield · 26/01/2023 11:17

They were both full inspections. Both were also outstanding. The one that’s had it’s report back is still outstanding.

Huge numbers are being downgraded from outstanding. Which one is still outstanding? A few days or even a couple of weeks doesn’t mean that much. Where you get longer delays, it’s usually because the school are challenging the grade. Also good is still a very decent school. You could find it’s a bigger downgrading though so you might need to think about how you react to that!

I also meant to say that Outstanding schools frequently haven’t been inspected for 10 years. So much can change. It’s a great result that 1/2 still is outstanding!

AnotherPigeon · 26/01/2023 13:00

How long ago were the inspections?

TizerorFizz · 26/01/2023 13:12

@Rugbyfield @AnotherPigeon
This is from the Ofsted framework. However Christmas holidays make a difference.

Ofsted report delayed?

It’s likely that the grading has changed (down graded) and the school are disputing this. They are probably making a formal complaint about the new grading and the maybe the inspecting process. This can take months. Basically there’s probably something in the report that school don’t agree with or accept so are going through a review and complaints process.

Rugbyfield · 26/01/2023 13:51

@TizerorFizz the state has maintained its outstanding status which is no surprise.

@Tallulasdancingshoes I suspect that the independent will be down graded. It was last rated outstanding in 2016 but has quadrupled in size since then (but still a tiny school).

@AnotherPigeon the inspections were end of November/beginning of December.

@Rugbyfield
So is the independent report outside the 30 working days now? Might not be that late?

Rugbyfield · 26/01/2023 14:56

I think the independent report is late but perhaps the state was just early.

This. It's exactly what happened to one of my kids schools

LondonHOPDad · 26/01/2023 15:48

Last year after we'd applied we were waiting for the outcome of the 2nd school on our preference list, and the most likely to get it. It was down as 'requires improvement' but the expectation was that it would move to good. The report came out around 2 months after the normal schedule I think, and they remained 'requires improvement', though they had improved in a few areas. It was delayed as they had appealed the original outcome (though not sure what the original outcome was, and if the appeal was succesful or not).

I didn't realise private schools were Ofsted inspected, I thought they had their own system.
