Habs to have an executive head

perhapsLAter · 19/01/2023 22:28

We are thinking of habs girls, if we are lucky to get it, just was sent information that habs girls and boys will have an executive head, I believe the boys school head my lock and then two new heads in September for the girls and boys school. Am I right to feel a little uncertain, about habs girls direction

Yes, I also found the direction is unclear this might have immediate impact on the coming intakes.

Have you read the 10-year strategy document, covering both schools?

We found Mr Lock hugely impressive at a Habs Boys open day - he’s no doubt an excellent appointment as Executive Principal. I do agree that it will be unsettling for those receiving offers from both schools next month not to know who the individual schools’ heads will be in September.

i agree with you, marisquita. as a parent in both boys' and girls' school i feel this is a very good move and with Gus Lock running both schools there is no need for concern. I am sure he will make good appointments in both roles under him.

Habs schools do have a unique proposition to create a colocation collaboration setting yet single sex education on individual school. But not clear how does this differentiate with other single sex schools are doing now.

The colocation benefits are not yet materialised except both schools share the same lane that cause congestions for school runs everyday.

The extra layer of management, if not executed carefully, can cause more problems then benifits for both schools.

totally disagree with this preplexJ
the location has always been the same for both schools as has the carpark which has always been something of a nightmare.
the hybrid co-ed/single sex model, however, is working fantastically well in 6th form where every student has at least one co-ed A Level. This is markedly different from what any other school is doing and is a really nice balance according to all the students who are in 6th form in both schools.
To make the best of further joint opportunities an executive head s necessary. It is a path well trodden in the state sector where every MAT has a similar structure.

PreplexJ · 21/01/2023 15:54

@ificould if you could elaborate what kind of further nook opportunities there?

ificould · 21/01/2023 16:05

I'm just a parent so i don't know exactly what they have planned, only what we were told in their 10 year strategy doc which came out a while back.. but i am sure there are loads of efficiencies and streamlining opportunities.. for example, currently at A level, the girls and boys do different boards in many subjects which isn't ideal for teaching the whole cohort together. Plus i guess there might be plans for a 6th form centre for boys and girls? My kids are coming to the end of their school careers hence i'm focused on the 6th form side of things but i am sure they will have many ideas from pre-prep all the way through...

PreplexJ · 21/01/2023 17:03

That is why I can't foresee how can they create more collbaration opportunities while still emphasis on the benefits of single sex education.

The 10 year strategy is pretty vain to me. Most single sex indies have already introduce Coed in Sixth form for many years, can't see why the Coed sixth form provision in Habs is better (I don't have kids in Sixth form currently)
