Today I have found out the 11+ dates for Sept for my son. The exam is in 2 parts, and my son's primary school is running Y6 residential, for 2 nights, returning at 5:30pm onthe day before the second exam. Does this sound extremely disorganised on the part of the school!!??

Does the school expect lots of kids to reach the second stage? Is it a high performing prep or a state school? 530pm isn't that late, I think you are slightly over reacting.

BoppityMummy · 05/01/2023 21:49

It's a bog standard state school; it's more the not much sleep preceding 2 nights (during residential) and too excited/wired to sleep post trip on pre exam night I'm concerned about....

That would annoy me! Kids don't sleep on residentials.

Are you in the catchment? Round my way, every child from the county where the grammar school is, and if that's you then Yanbu, but not every child from a different county takes the 11plus, and if that's you, then Yabu.

I don't think it would be on the radar of the school in the same way it's on your radar.

BoppityMummy · 05/01/2023 22:05

we are in the catchment but there's only 2 grammar schools within about 40 miles in any direction from us; not like when I was at school and there were 2 grammars in my town

Does every child at your school take the 11plus?

BoppityMummy · 05/01/2023 22:09

No, I think about 1/4 of the year usually. In prev years school has laid on practice/mock 11+ tests for the kids, but head has changed since covid so I'm not sure now....

That's insane he'll come back shattered!

LostMyMarblesToday · 11/01/2023 12:26

I'm guessing the school organised the trip before any dates for exams were released?
Also, sounds like not a lot of the children take the test so school isn't 'heavily' involved in prep.

redskydelight · 11/01/2023 12:46

I skim read your post at first and assumed the residential must clash with the exam.

I can't see why the exam being the day after would be an issue?
If your DC is tired, then just put them to bed early and they will at least sleep well and not fret. And good for them to have a break from academic study for a couple of days beforehand.

Shampern · 11/01/2023 12:48

I can't see the problem. One of my sons was as sick as a dog the night before, went to the test, still passed.
