Hi, has anyone had any experience with either their children or those you know of Sat JMC when they were in Primary school? Thanks

Yes my chikd was invited to sit in year 5.

very short notice to go anything or any prep .
he hit good n was invited to kangaroo . He missed certificate of merit by 1 mark . School in both exams didn’t announce time and my son has no idea that test was about to be over. He couldn’t randomly mark any of the unattempted questions …

Thank you. That's amazing, congrats to your son! Can I ask did he go to a state primary or independent?

Mine attends state primary not sure how to go about entering.

State primary .

It’s not your choice . Only School can do it if they think child is eligible.

From our school around 20 sat from year 5 but only two including my son got gold . Rest all didn’t score enough to even get bronzes.

It's amazing that your school even thinks about JMC in primary. Once again we'll done to your son Smile

Literally all school in our area does. It’s not a big deal n tbh your child can attempt same paper at home n you can mark it.

Long time ago in Y6, DS's teacher persuaded the head of school to enter him to JMC. He got 24 Q correct and then silver (50/70) in the JMO. Its a state primary.

Thanks both. Sounds like there are some excellent state primaries around. Haven't heard of this in our area, none seem to be bothered on stretching them. They're quite keen on following the national curriculum and nothing further.

Mine has tried a few past papers and enjoys them.

My son did in Y6 at state primary - he had a bit of extra coaching from a volunteer ex-teacher who gave a small group of them extra maths lessons. He got a gold certificate. If your child likes maths they’ll probably enjoy it.

Jmc or any such challenge is like an 1 hr paper. it doesn’t stretch child in anyway as such.

your child has that in-depth understanding n has sense of application of mathematical concept or not.
Exam result just proves that but exam in itself doesn’t do much . It prob serves same purpose as doing same test at home .

I will be honest , I can see tutors posts and child being prepared for it . Totally beats the purpose.
