What performing arts schools in the south east and London offer AL of Btec of any other post 16 qualifications apart from UAL?

Thanks in advance!

Interested why you don’t want the UAL qualification? Or are you just looking for options.

Tring Park. Young people have to study three A-levels alongside their vocational training.

Arts Ed

Theredjellybean · 16/10/2022 10:08

Tring - you can do A levels or Btecs or combination

chopc · 16/10/2022 11:10

Thanks all. @Thesoundofmusic23 I was wanting to keep options open in case she wants to study an academic subject at university and also I wasn't sure what course UAL will avail - if you know I will appreciate some input

Thanks to everyone else. Have considered Trina but trying to avoid boarding is possible

Arts Ed is deffo an option we are seriously considering. Thank you

Also some 6 forms do a mix of e.g. performing arts btec and then add a couple of alevels for a more rounded mix. Are you looking private or state or both. This this is the last year for btw a though.

Brit have a strand where you do the 3 a level worth or UAL and also can do an a level to keep options open. Elam do English and maths alongside. Some do EPC.

Most of the UAL courses I’ve see the leavers go to a wide range of degrees and other things afterwards so don’t think it has to be limiting - esp of you do well. Obviously can’t be a doctor but teacher/ writer/ social sciences etc.

Thesoundofmusic23 · 16/10/2022 11:56

Btec not btw!

chopc · 16/10/2022 13:29

Thanks @Thesoundofmusic23 . I will do more research

She is at a private school now which has a fabulous drama department and she dances 5 days a week and does musical theater on the 6th day. So looking for something which is going to give her something "better". For DD it would be to spend more school time doing musical theater and less time on studies but I don't think this is how it would work

Tring do s

Theredjellybean · 17/10/2022 23:21

Sorry...Tring do split days, half is vocational training and half is academic.
Lots go to university..some to heavy weight subjects such as law or medicine.
But..I would say in our experience the musical theatre course at sixth form is incredibly difficult to get a place on if you are not already at Tring.
When my dad went, no one got a place ..all MT places went to Tring students.

VanCleefArpels · 18/10/2022 10:47

Hurtwood House - if you have very deep pockets.

Godalming 6th Form College very highly rated for their musical theatre teaching, can do BTEC alongside A levels

tweedlee · 18/10/2022 13:09

Elstree Screen Arts?

chopc · 18/10/2022 14:24

Does anyone have any experience of Arts Ed?

A lot of colleges are moving away from Btec towards UAL due to various administration and other issues, there was a huge moderation debacle several years ago and this year LOTS of students did not get their results until a week or so after results day leading to uncertainty with regards to university places.

I would say Btec and UAL are equally regarded.

You don't say what subject, music, MT, acting etc? We looked at Arts Ed but couldn't afford it and we felt the hours of dance were not as much as dd would get on her other option which was a Dada funded diploma. She did a summer school at Tring and hated it there.

chopc · 18/10/2022 19:42

DD would be interested in MT

Chestnut Grove art specialist places help needed here - anyone has knowledge about waiting list movements for the art specialist places at the school ? I know the language places move down to 35-43th on a waiting list for the previous years based on local mums who’s children are there , but no information about the art places ? Any info much appreciated 🙏
