Hi,

We decided to enter an all-through private school for DC, but at the back of my mind I can't help thinking if DC ( currently aged 4) shows much promise to try her for 7+ at LEH or City or Latymer ( will move accordingly if she gets a place). Mind this is only if DC seems suitable for these schools. Her current school is fine, but its no LEH by any stretch.

We chose current school it as it was close to us, and didn't like the idea of sending 4 year old to a 'hot house' prep.

DC school wont prepare for 7+ of course and we will have to do that ourselves, ideally we'd like her placed at 7+ if she was going to change school, at a push 11+ only if DC was suitable for more academic school

For those who have tutored at home in an all-through school for 7+ or 11+ looking back do you regret not choosing a prep?

Prefer to remain anonymous, thus not revealing current school, but think minor GDST

Hello All,
My DD is preparing for City of London Freemen’s and I have been worried after reading posts about bullying on mumsnet. I would really appreciate some feedback please.
any parent who’s child is currently attending the school.
Thank you

I think you need to decide what you actually want. You didn't want a hot house prep and instead chose an all through school presumably to avoid the 11+ stress but are now looking to tutor her for both the 7+ and then possibly the 11+ too.

She is only 4, maybe just see in a year or two if the schools you seem to be looking at are realistic, otherwise why not just move her to a prep now?

Pros and cons. I regret both my DD and DS not being at a straight through school as they would have been better prepared (and in some cases no 11+ exam esp. in covid years), plus I don’t think my DD was encouraged enough at her school - a culture of rewarding everything except academic achievement.
However, they have both had a gentler start to their education, and have benefitted from a change of scene at 11. Some of the children progressing from the prep to the senior school have struggled, as their ‘cosy’ prep school has suddenly turned into a more pressurised senior school. Those coming in at 11 are conditioned to be prepared for senior school and more expectation.
Perhaps 7+ is a good middle ground?

I absolutely hated the 11 plus (I had a boy to go through it first) and I've got 3 more gos 😂😂😂

If I had my time again I'd go for a through school plus walking distance from home.

The matches / the friends / forgot the swim bag etc all involves so much driving around.

I'd put them all into one school and not mess around with co -Ed plus girls schools. That they could walk to
