You'll be more likely to get answers quickly if you put the school names or the area into your title.
You might also want to consider posting on MN Local.

Sophiemumxx · 06/10/2022 15:22

Do you mean Durham School, or Durham High School for Girls? Which school do you mean by Newcastle School for Girls? There is a Newcastle School for Boys, but not girls. There is a Newcastle High School (for Girls).

They are quite an unusual mix. They don’t appear to have much in common. There are a number of independent schools around Newcastle and Durham, however, you have a mix of single sex and Co-Ed although both cities have both.

If you clarify which, and the qualities you are looking for in a school, hopefully people can help you 😊

LeafHunter · 06/10/2022 15:35

You can report your own post with a message for MNHQ to delete this one and you can post in the local area with the names of the schools. You find the local part either by searching “local” or by looking under the talk options. It’s near the bottom of the list.

EvianBaby · 06/10/2022 15:35

St Roberts is different again. A mixed sex, state/academy. It’s also a Faith school, which neither of the independents are. This will have an impact on its ethos.

gogohmm · 06/10/2022 15:54

Think about logistics, they are in quite different locations! What is a good fit for your dc. Can you get her to all of these in s reasonable time

Testina · 06/10/2022 21:36

Why’s it urgent? Is it close to application deadline?

OxanaVorontsova · 06/10/2022 21:38

Very different areas and types of schools, more info?

Xenia · 06/10/2022 22:46

They are certainly all very different (I went to Westfield).

Because of DH job, we will be moving to live in Luton and I'm new to the UK and educational system. Anyone with ideas of which schools (year 9) I should consider for my twins in September 2023. Interested in an all round bred children. Academic, ethics, values etc. Boy & girl. I don't intend to separate them so i am looking towards best co-ed a. Also open to independent schools because I want both of them to be in boarding school. Happy to also consider good state boarding schools. I have done a lot of research and not sure how to proceed

Xenia · 17/10/2022 10:56

You might get more responses (this is a Newcastle upon Tyne thread) if you posted a new topic in schools with a heading Luton schools. I am now down here in outer London but not familiar with schools in Luton. Luton is a relatively cheap area of outer London so you will need to be careful you pick a school in an area with high house prices or go for a private school or you might end up with a relatively poor state school and year 9 is a very important year with GCSE exams not long after year 9 so important to get it right.

sheepdogdelight · 17/10/2022 11:02

@DrJay I agree with PP that you would be better starting your own thread.
However, you should be aware that if you move mid-way through Year 9 you won't have a free choice, but will have to focus on schools that have places. And yes, these may well be the "relatively poor" ones.

So, I'd suggest your research should start by working out where there are actually places available. Secondly, some schools start GCSE courses in Year 9 - I'd suggest you also rule those out as you won't want your DC to have to play catch-up.

Testina · 17/10/2022 11:30

If you say you want boarding, then you’ll have to do more than “consider” independent!
I can’t imagine you’ll find 2 state boarding (extremely limited!) places in Y9.

You say you’re moving to Luton, but if you want boarding (why?) then what’s the area you want for schools?

You say you’ve done a lot of research - it would be better if you share that, so people don’t tell you what you already know.

DrJay · 17/10/2022 13:38

@testina good points. I honestly don’t even know how to proceed. They are in year 8 now to move to year 9 next year. Not sure what area. Like I said I’m new to the UK
