Stockport independent schools

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has already looked around / had children at the following senior schools : Cheadle Hulme school, Stockport Grammar or Hulme Hall Grammar.

Our two DCs are not yet at primary school, but depending on which senior school we decide to send them to, we'd want to send them to a 'matching' prep school - mostly so they stay with the same friends. I.e. Cheadle Hulme school has it's own prep school, while the other two don't (in our town there's a prep school where pupils would likely go on to Stockport Grammar for senior school, for example).

I do want to book some visits but it seems bizarre to be visiting a senior school now when our children aren't even at primary. We don't really know their full personalities or learning styles or interests yet.

Anybody got experience of the schools - good, bad, etc ....?

Thanks!

Stockport Grammar does have juniors.

CHS juniors is very popular atm and has some quite long waiting lists for some year groups

Hulme hall is much smaller, and is non academically selective and tends to be a school that attracts those who need additional support in some way, or who aren't academically capable of passing the entrance exams for the selective schools in the area. I know of students there who find it very nurturing.

You need to look round other primary options both state and private. There are lots of great schools in the area and roughly one third of the yr7 places at CHS and SGS go to kids from their preps so there are plenty joining at yr7 from outside. I personally prefer the smaller standalone prep schools as I personally don't think the all-through schools offer as much for the juniors, they are big for prep schools, so less about the individual child in my experience. i also think it's hard to determine at age 4 where will be right for them at age 11.
