Forced enrichment after school

My DDs school is having compulsory enrichment for y 7 and y8 students after the school day. it’s a new thing she didn’t have to do this in y7 she’s y8.
I actually think this could be a good thing it gives the children a range of opportunities but it’s the compulsory that’s annoyed me.
My DD does a out of school sport after school the one day this new project is being ran.
Shes at the highest level now so slots are extremely limited she’s been in this slot for almost 5 years.
shes not a rule breaker but there’s no way she can physically do both it takes 45 minutes to get there and we leave straight from school now she’s got herself in a right state upset about it.

what’s really annoyed me the most is didn't communicate this at the end of the summer term just told us 2 weeks ago.
Due to start next week this week is picking what you want to do.

I have contacted her form tutor she sent a basic email back saying it’s unfortunate but it’s the new rules.

The school my children attend has a 'compulsary' enrichement session for an hour after school, one day a week (the kids love it - it's 'Taskmaster' this term). Those children who train for sports at a high lever (or music etc) don't have to go though - even if their training isn't on the same evening they can be excused from the additional session and use the time for homework etc.

Your daughter is already doing something classed as enrichment. I would provide evidence of this to the school advising of the years she has attended and the impact it will have on her not being able to continue.

@Bagpuss2022
I'd literally just email the school and say she's already committed to her sport activity, she's invested 5 years on already and that you will be collecting her at normal time to do this and that she won't be doing the enrichment activities

Anything that falls outside the standard school day cannot be compulsory

Parents should be consulted and they can't just arrange this without discussion - I would also contact the governors

Not a private school a local average comp.
Called school this morning and am waiting for a call back from a member of SLT.
They have enrichment on other days it’s just this one particular day they are trying to enforce y7 and y8 to attend.

I think they have to consult and give a decent notice period before changing the school day, so I'm not sure they can enforce this. If they've got an ounce of sense then they will be happy to exempt a child who is already participating in an enrichment activity elsewhere. You can always offer that they're happy to take part in a school enrichment activity on another day.

My son's school did this last year for the year 7s and 8s and they extended the school day so now it a an actual period in the school day.

This has come up before and I believe if they have made it part of the school day and extended the school hours then yes it is compulsory. I think the school day can run until a particular time.
