Moving schools

Hi. We are moving to South Yorkshire from Surrey and kids will be moving schools. One to A levels at Barnsley college and one in Year 10 . I'm really worried about the Year 10 and and finding somewhere where GCSEs will match. Equally worried about the college and if my boy will settle with such a big move .He is only just starting them here but I think it's different in the schools in the north .
Worried about moving and not being able to find a good school, so many are oversubscribed. What are your thoughts? I am single and have no idea how big the change in areas will be from south to north and if we will ....Thank you.

How soon are you moving? I live abroad so have generally paid attention to info re DC moving just before/during GCSE & A level years and got the impression anything after Oct half term in Y10 or Y12 was absolutely impossible in the UK. Is there any chance of home eduction linked to the new schools with the correct syllabus/ exam boards until moving?

Agree with Teen - you need to move asap, and anything after October half term will likely be too hard (and even that will involve catching up and might be to difficult). I'd forget about trying to match syllabuses - even if you do, schools won't necessarily have studied in the same order, just the same subjects might be as good as you could hope for. I would, however, look for a school that started GCSEs this year, and not in Year 9.

Also, the "north" is not a whole different world. School vary in their approach, just as they do in the "south". There's not a blanket policy in "the north" that's different to "the south". You need to consider individual schools.

Thank you ...Looking at moving by the end of October if the owners will allow a rental, just to get up there and the kids into their schools.
I will call around the schools today but the council have made it clear we need an address to get a place allocated... the whole thing is so stressful

Just echoing what others have said, the move needs to be as soon as possible. Are you able to put your reason (schools) forward to owners to see if that will help get things moving quickly?

If you have a few schools in mind, definitely call them. I would also call the council and explain you do have a potential address (but I don't know if that will help).

South Yorkshire is a wide area, so the schools will also vary.

Best of luck 🤞
