Worried about dd in high school

Dd just started high school. So far she is loving it and feeling very grown up.

But she has always struggled academically. Her SATS weren't good at all. She was so upset about it. Now she's in high school I just know she's going to struggle once she starts properly in her lessons. She said yesterday when she's reading it she doesn't understand something or doesn't like something her brain just won't let her read it. She can't concentrate to read it. She can't retain information and this was picked up in primary. So we had to work learning small things over & over & over. She told me yesterday a TA will be coming into lessons to help her and today she was took out to do a test to see where she's up to but it was just her and another pupil.

I don't have the answer and have tried everything her primary teacher advised us to do. But nothing is clicking and I'm worried she's now picking up that she is actually behind others. Any advice of best to handle this?

Well, it's great the school seems to be picking up on it and giving her some additional support.
School will run some screening tests and might then be able to tell you adjustments they can make to help her.
I go with 'different people are good at different things, some people find schoolwork easier/harder than others and some people's brains can work a bit slowly or differently' And then find things to point out that they are good at.

Thank you. I have said she will find somethings that she is better at like art & design, DT, cooking. I just don't want her to compare herself which she seems to be doing and we're only 3 days in. Like you said it's good the school are active in making it easier for her.

someone once said to me that education is a long game - so whenever DD has a bad school day I remind myself that we have plenty of time to find our niche . I’d rather have a happy child than one that’s fretting about algebra !
