Bursary help- partner no PR

Hello,

Just a quick run through. My son currently attends a local private school and he is on a 50% bursary until he leaves. He is just going into Year 6.

I am currently applying for his senior place at a few local independent schools. I will again be applying for a bursary.

My question is; we now live with my partner with whom I have had a baby with. We are not married. He legally has no PR over my son.

So how would I fill in the bursary form? Shall I still put him down as the second parent?

I currently do not work, my partner is working full time. So he does support us financially of course.

I am assuming I just put myself as parent one and him as parent two?

But unsure as he isn't his parent or step dad etc

(My son has no communication with his bio dad and never has)

My mum pays for the 50% bursary currently.

Thank you! I hope that all makes sense.

Hmm …

Has your partner confirmed he’s happy to pay school fees? Because it’s highly likely any future bursary application will be assessed on his income and any other assets you both have. So if he earns a good amount the likelihood of a substantial bursary is much reduced.

You can’t really say he’s not your son’s step-father. He’s in a committed relationship with you, the four of you share a household, for which he is the main financial provider.

(I do understand your position. But I also know mothers who have remained single in order not to muddy the waters regarding an existing bursary.)

Contact the bursars at each of the schools you are applying to. They will tell you what to do and it may be different for each school. Do this asap as it may impact which schools you want to apply for.

Is your Mum happy to commit to the fees for your baby too, and is she willing to stump up the ever increasing fees for independent secondary? At the tail end you'll have 1 in 6th form and 1 in primary (I think).
Not what you asked, but if in doubt don't commit to independent for the next school.
