When do the dates of next years GCSEs and ALevels get announced?

Anyone know? My DS is doing his GCSEs next summer and my DD her ALevels. Since we never really get to go abroad and both of them finish early for the summer we want to take advantage and book something special but I have no idea when to book for. I could play safe and book early July but even that is more expensive than the week before so it would be good to know the dates.

Following with interest!

Watapalava · 26/08/2022 20:18

Gcses are always 3rd Thursday In august

Xiaoxiong · 26/08/2022 20:22

Do you mean the dates of exams, or results?

Titsywoo · 26/08/2022 20:24

Sorry I mean the actual exams

Exams will definitely be over by the end of the first week in July.

Beekeepersapprentice · 26/08/2022 20:26

Unless your children aren't interested you might also need to factor in proms, end of exam celebrations etc. We went away after GCSEs and A levels in the second week of July I think and luckily managed to avoid proms but they still missed a couple of things they would have liked to have done. I think we got the dates in about February but they might have been available earlier if we'd looked.

CatLadyDrinksGin · 26/08/2022 20:28

We went first sat in July this year and missed the 6th form induction (date announced after holiday booked). The prom etc will be end of June so you can go earlier than July really.

cathol · 26/08/2022 20:30

JCQ are in the process of determining which exams are on which days.

Cookerhood · 26/08/2022 20:33

They also always have a day set aside in case of unforeseen circumstances - usually after the end of the exams. Students are usually asked to avoid going away by this date although many ignore it. Under similar circumstances we went early July, the day after the year 11 prom (the year 13 didn't want to go).

Moby715 · 26/08/2022 21:05

Avoid may and June to be safe. Both sets of exams usually start mid my and end by the end of June .

SkygardenTower · 26/08/2022 21:11

Remember the contingency day!

This is always at the end of the exam season and is only used if there is a disruption so an exam has to be moved. This hasn’t been used so far but it is always a possibility so students should be available then.

Neither will want to go to proms I can guarantee! DS is doing an apprenticeship and DD is going to Uni so there should be no inductions or anything else. It is so annoying as I want to book but the difference between leaving on 22nd June and 5th July is quite a bit of money.

I think 22 June is a bit if a risk tbh. GCSEs were scheduled over a longer period this year but still, all finished by 21 June is by no means a given.

DD had a GCSE exam on 21 June (I know bc it’s just after her birthday) and ds2 had mates who had an exam on 22 June iirc.

And Yy there is now the contingency day, which I think was 26 June or similar for ds2.

Prom btw varies from school to school; dd’s sixth form prom was on 6 July or so. I know yours don’t want to go op but others may read this.

EquallyDivided · 26/08/2022 22:17

We were in the same boat this year. Contingency day was 29th June this year but is usually slightly earlier I think, 26th-ish, the exams were a bit more spread out than usual this year because of covid. Mine definitely wanted to stay around for proms, end of year get togethers etc till the first week in July, we went away after those.

TeenDivided · 27/08/2022 08:18

The dates were more spread out this year, but they are reviewing to see what the impact was to decide whether to keep them spread out. I think anything in June is a risk at this point. Presumably though they'll get on and decide before half term. (I hope so as how the English Lang & Maths exams are spread may impact our choices for DD for this academic year.)

I am also looking forward to my first cheap holiday when mine finishes their A levels !

@mumoftwokidsboygirl Provisional timetables have been released at least for GCSE, eg. filestore.aqa.org.uk/admin/t_table_pdf/AQA-TT-GCSE-JUN23-P.PDF

Fuuuuuckit · 01/11/2022 18:43

Don't book anything before 1st July. Contingency day is in the last week of June.

tribpot · 01/11/2022 18:49

I've been working on the basis that we can't book anything before 1st July as well - my ds is doing A Level Biology, which always seems to be one of the last exams. I can see from the provisional dates, though, that he might be done on 21st June.

hockeygrass · 01/11/2022 20:37

Contingency day (shown in the link below) is 28th June so anything planned from 29th June onwards is good.
