GCSEs extenuating circumstance- extra percentage Question

MumofSpud · 13/08/2022 09:16

DD is expecting her GCSE results in a couple of weeks
She was eligible for 'extenuating circumstances' - we applied / gave evidence etc - all good.

But now I am wondering how it works - is the extra 4% already added to the grade / Mark she will receive ?
I am thinking it must be as she will need the correct grade to apply for different courses and, technically, that extra % could make a difference?

I gave googled but only found information about the applying stage rather than at the results stage!

If it's agreed, it will have been added to the mark before the grade was calculated. It's a % of the mark awarded, not of the marks available.

Thanks! So if she got, for example, 50%, she would get 4% of 50 added - so 58%

I would think it is calculated on the ums of each relevant paper (depending if it applied to all or just those taken on specific day/s) so not necessarily a flat 4% across the board.

It will be applied already, so the grade she gets on the day is the grade plus the extra % I would urge you not to rely on it making a huge diffrenect though. In order to get the full (is it 4%, I thought it was 5%) the circumstances have to be very severe, for example the death of a parent or sibling close to the time of the exams.

Unless things have changed recenly you should be able to tell if the extra consideration has been given because on the paper slip she receives there will be a symbol like a @ to indicate special consideration.

It's calculated as a % of the marks she gained on the affected paper.

Yes students can be awarded between 1-5% but she is eligible for 4%
I know it won't make much of a difference but it was the only thing I could do at the time that I had control of IYSWIM
