Critical Thinking - Year 8 - anyone have any experience of this?

I've posted this already in Gifted & Talented, but it's been suggested that I might get more responses if I post here, so here goes:

DS2 has been offered the chance to take part in these - or at least apply for the chance as the school has 5 places for the G&T boys.

It's a 2 year commitment.

Does anyone have any experience of these to help us decide if it's something we should put him forward for?

No exprience...but it does sound a very interesting course.

My son now has Philosophy at school, and he loves it...and I would think it's similar?

what exactly is it he's being offered? My school offers it to year 11s as an AS level, I don't know much about it but know it is thought of as an interesting and useful subject

I know that it's been offered as an AS level at Year 11, but wasn't aware that it could be available to the younger ones.

Have had some information from Roisin (on the G&T thread) that sounds interesting. Hopefully I'll get more info from school tomorrow.

It seems like it's probably worth at least signalling our interest - there are only 5 places so he may not get one anyway.

It's an interesting subject - designed to test logic - if your son loves debating and analysing he'll love it.

He loves the Wii - does that count?!!!

HMm - perhaps not!!

it's one of those piss easy a-levels that people do to add an extra one to the list. i did it at 6th form - just one hour a week compared to 5 hours a week in every other subject. it's all common sense really and just writing essays and putting across your arguement.
