Just wondering if anyone doesn’t mind sharing their dc end of year 10 grades?

Mines in year 9 but got all 5s 6s and 7s.

TeenDivided · 26/07/2022 09:59

Why?
If MN were representative the grades will range from 1/2s to 8/9s.
Plus it depends whether schools give 'currently working at' grades or 'predicted to achieve' grades or 'stretch predicted grades'.

boysmuminherts · 26/07/2022 10:10

2, 3 4s 5s and a 9!

redskyatnight · 26/07/2022 10:13

Schools also grade in different ways. Some schools use a "if you were to take the GCSE today you would get x type grading" (so typically in Year 10, the grades will be lower than they likely will be this time next year). Some schools grade based on relative performance in Year 10 (so the very high achieving DC might get a 9 on this basis, even though they wouldn't if they took a GCSE paper as they haven't covered half the syllabus). Some schools use their own entirely bespoke method.

Is your child achieving at the level you think they should be and are they on track to get the GCSEs they want/need? That's the only question of interest.

wonderstuff · 26/07/2022 10:15

Different schools will report differently. My school reports on track for grades, so a guess of what the child would achieve at end of year 11, my dd was given mock exam in year 9 and they reported achieved grade, I didn’t realise at first and was concerned the grade was much lower than anticipated!
I think you can expect 1-2 grade improvement from end year 10 to year 11, obviously depending on how hard kid works in that last couple of terms.

Hersetta427 · 27/07/2022 12:34

Mine got 1 grade 9, 7 grade 8's and 2 grade 7's in year 10 mocks.

latestnyoos · 27/07/2022 20:52

My DS got a combo of 9, 9- and one 8+, with a minimal amount of work (yes, really). But, I'm not sure whether its helpful for him to think they're all in the bag. His older brother got similar y10 grades, then straight 9s at GCSE, so DS2 is expecting similar. However, DS1 got his grades in 2020 and I doubt he'd have got a clean sweep if it wasn't for Covid CAGs - he was capable of getting a 9 in any of them, so the CAGs were fair (and not raised by the algorithm) but in a non-Covid world there would have been multiple chances of having a bad day.

You won’t get any useful information.

There are 2 main ways of reporting grades in year 10:
Marking at gcse standard, you would expect these grades to go up
Marking taking into account they are year 10 so do the adjustment.

You really can’t compare.

KaloolaDeBue · 28/07/2022 09:16

Are you really asking how many grades can they shift up by from year 10 to year 11?

Ds2 is year 11 but all his reports from year 10 and 11 had their current working grade and then their "attainable grade" which meant what they believed they were capable of getting. Ds1 had the same and it was pretty accurate except in one subject they predicted a 7 and he got a 9.

How does your school present their report? I find it is better to work off their achieved yr10 mock exam results.

KaloolaDeBue · 28/07/2022 09:18

Ours also had attitude to learning and effort which does account for a lot when it comes to revision.

reluctantbrit · 29/07/2022 10:02

A mix of 3, 5 and 7. She crashed two mocks as she paniked and didn't read the papers correctly.

The school sees the June mocks in Y10 as something to identify gaps and looks where support is needed. It's also all about learning how an exam works (see reading the paperwork properly).

We have more mocks in November and then February. These will be a better indication of things to come.

How will knowing the grades of a handful of random strangers assist you in any way at all?

All schools will report yr10 grades differently, as pp have described and all children are different. If you took them all as a very very wide average I'd say you'd probably get some kind of rough bell curve distribution.

If you have a question about your child's grades or how your school reports the grades, it's probably best to ask that specific question and then you might get some more helpful answers.

Tittyhill · 29/07/2022 10:13

A mix of 3, 7, 8 and a couple of 9s

LondonWolf · 29/07/2022 10:21

2, 3, 5 & 4 Us - she had covid and didn't take hardly any exams 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are you worried? Is that why you're asking? Try not to be if so. Teacher predicted grades for dd range between 5 & 7. That's what we are focussing on.

Dewsberry · 29/07/2022 19:44

Shouldn't you start by sharing your own child's grades OP?

It's meaningless to compare between schools, or sometimes even subjects at the same school. At ours some subjects give 9s, others don't give anything above a 7 at this stage. One subject most of them seemed to get 4s and 5s.
