my ds got a conditional offer of 6th form of a independent school. as gcse results are only announced on 27 August, which is very close to the school commencement day. if he can't satisfy the conditions, how can he find another school in short period of time? many thanks.

It's the 25th not 27th!

Anyway here you apply for as many as you want and then just say yes on the day to the one you choose. I'd have thought this would have been discussed by the school!

@newtoUKmom , if you have paid the deposit the school is expecting your ds to start. If he doesn't get the gcse grades as expected then they will probably offer different A level options. You should be speaking to the school admissions team about what to do if he doesn't get the grades, the last thing the new school would want is you contacting another private school or a local authority to take up a state school place.

From the required grades it sounds like a very selective school.
If it's a case of (say) 1 or 2 grades lower they might be prepared to compromise. otherwise there's no particular reason for the school to take a chance on an unknown student sullying their excellent final results and I don't see why they would care about him going to another school.

@newtoUKmom I think the deposit would be refundable if the grades are entirely missed. 8’s or 9’s in a level subjects is the norm at selective schools, the rest mostly 7’s. As a pp said, you’re most likely to be offered different a levels rather than told to go on your way. They are a business after all. 6th form entry can be competitive but assuming your son had assessments and interviews the school is likely to be equally confident of his success and will be expecting him. If all else fails, there are excellent 6th form colleges he’ll be able to attend. Good luck!

You sound very uninformed about things that should have been sorted out a long time ago. Most schools will now be closed for the summer.
If your child doesn’t get into their choice of school, you will need to immediately phone around other schools & sixth form colleges in your area. I’m sure that at least some will have vacancies but how distressing for your child to not have a back up plan.

@Twiglets1 the OP is moving from overseas I think from different posts on The education pages. It’s likely she doesn’t know term dates/school systems.

There is such a thing as the Internet? If you’re moving your child from one country to another, the onus is on the parent to research school systems in the other country. It’s a hard truth but they have put their child in a situation that may be worrying for them all summer. Hopefully the child will get into their first choice school.
