Schools in Salisbury

We're considering a big move to Salisbury but I'm worried about schools having read so many negative views on them!

I have a 13, 12 and 9 year old.... The 9 year old is not academic, the other two are more so.

Does anyone have anything good to say about the schooling system in Salisbury?? I don't know anyone there so it's hard to get real views.

Would love to know all anyone knows please!

Hi
I live in Salisbury and have never heard anything negative about the schools (apart from the odd child not suiting a school and moving) so I’m surprised at that! Are you looking at state or independent? I have two boys that started at a prep and are now at the grammar. No complaints for either. I have lots of friends who’s children have gone for state the whole way through (Harnham then Trafalgar very popular) and again, very happy.
Do you know where you’ll be living?

Hi,
I think the issue is mainly with the girl's grammar which is good academically but to the detriment of everything else ie pastorally has poor reputation, lots of mental health issues and very stressful / competitive environment. Boys grammar is highly regarded all round. Because of the grammars the other secondary schools in Salisbury perhaps have had the "cream" taken off the top so don't fair as well academically. Grammar places are very competitive and it would be unusual to go after yr 7, I think there are a few places into yr 9 each year, or random ones that come up if a child leaves. Lots of children from Salisbury go to Trafalgar in Downton or Burgate near Fordingbridge which are both more true comprehensives and good schools. Primaries I don't know much about but think on the whole pretty good.

I’m also looking to move to the Salisbury area, from London. We are looking at the village of Shrewton. My daughter is only just starting primary school but I’m already thinking ahead to secondary school and how easy it will be for her to commute from a village 😁 Looking at state schools or Grammar too.

Schools are good IME, girls' grammar does have the issues outlined above I've heard from ex pupils. Boys' grammar less so, mostly very positive. WSE doing well and about to get a new HT so path seems to be improving there. Recommend the 6th form college for both results and pastoral care. If you move to shrewton then Lavington School is nearest and also very well regarded.

The prep schools are really good, one went on to Leehurst swan which was truly fabulous and one to the boys grammar which was also brilliant.
For the poster moving to Shrewton, I have a friend who has children at the primary and loves it. Just be warned though that traffic past Stonehenge is a bugger ALL year.
