SWPS or St Georges Weybridge

Hi,
Would appreciate any advise, I'm torn between SWPS and St Georges for my 10 year old daughter. She is average academically, enjoys sports but isn't always A team, not very musical or in to drama. She isn't the quietest girl in the class but definitely isn't the super confident type that I associate with St Georges. She has got into both, initially thought SWPS mostly due to pastoral care but now worried that their sports facilities aren't great. Concerned she might get lost in St Georges.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Swps everytime, but I’m a convert to single sex schools for girls after seeing the effect it had on my daughters. Also played a few matches against St. George’s and they were not the best losers.

Thanks for replying. Could you elaborate on the single sex thing if you don't mind, interested to hear the effect. Thanks

DD’s have just grown massively in confidence since we went from mixed prep to single sex. Suddenly got in to sport and science in a way they never were before. Much more vocal in class and out and just verbally blossoming . All a bit cliched but true in our case .

SWPS

Definitely St Georges, amazing sports facilities. Did you see the sports hall with the electronic glass floor? World-class

Genegenieee · 02/06/2022 21:28

To PP - I wouldn't pick a school for the sports facilities unless it's going to be differential for DC life in the long term.

I'd go with SWPS

thestringcheesemassacre · 05/06/2022 13:59

swps every time.

sport is demented at St G - and if you’re daughter isn’t super sporty it’s even worse,
plus they have appalling pastoral care.

On the basis on the description of your daughter, SWPS. That’s coming from a parent who had the same dilemma and went for St George’s, which with hindsight was the wrong choice. The flashy facilities are a bit if a smoke screen, you need to look beyond that.

jjdon · 05/06/2022 19:19

Thanks a mill. Could I ask why you aren't happy with st Georges?

I would recommend you trust your instincts about getting lost in a school like St George’s, it is simply too big to think beyond those who confidently ‘shine.’

pkim123 · 05/06/2022 20:03

All I know is that glass floor in the large gym is absolutely brilliant and the sports facilities are second-to-none. St George's seems like a world-class place

Jubilee1978 · 05/06/2022 20:12

Facilities are great but the school needs enough teaching staff and quality coaches to support the use of them (for those who would love to use them) otherwise what’s the point of them?!

Who picks a secondary school to get your kids through to A levels and beyond at considerable cost based on the sports facilities!?

Seriously, the glass floor is absolutely brilliant.
