Hi does anyone know whether it is usual/kids are allowed to be told what grade has been given for the NEA part of the gcse when it has been submitted - design and tech in our case but know other subjects have this too. Thanks

Yes, it's normal (drama, music too I think). Brilliant for some, utterly demoralising for others. Only Art doesn't give you your grade before August. I think it's a ridiculous system.

Yes, it's a JCQ requirement. They needed to be told that mark (not grade!) and given the option to appeal the marking process before the marks are entered to the exam board. Your school should have a policy about how long they have to appeal (mine is a week, but it can be shorter) and the process of a student appeals. There's also rules about how long before entering the marks to the exam board that this has to be done.

really helpful thanks. So they should have been told by now?

Yes DD has been told both her drama and art NEA scores.

Although they did give individuals the option not to know. As PP says, it is so that the students have the option to appeal.

catsonahottinroof · 24/05/2022 08:30

Yes dd found out her DT score, with a letter about appealing it which I didn't see until it was too late (she didn't want to appeal anyway though). Not sure if she's found out her art score though.

My DS received NEA marks for both DT and art which came in a letter setting out the process, deadline and cost for an review of the mark. He was not given much time to decide but had no reason to request a review so it didn't really matter to him.

Yes because they have to be able to appeal before the marks go to the board which is May 15th

Watapalava · 24/05/2022 19:52

Ds has done a nea project for media

should he have been given the mark?

MrsHamlet · 24/05/2022 20:06

It's in the JCQ regs

NEA/coursework GCSE - grade in advance?
Watapalava · 24/05/2022 20:07

I asked ds who said no one was given their media score and deadline for submission was 7 May so too late anyway

MrsHamlet · 24/05/2022 20:43

Schools should have an NEA policy which covers this. But if they're JCQ regulated subjects, candidates should have been given their marks and told how to appeal them.

WayDownInTheHole · 24/05/2022 22:34

Any subject with NEA has to do this (it's a relatively new rule - happened for only a year or two before Covid stopped exams in 2020). If they haven't done it they're technically contravening JCQ rules.

spongedog · 24/05/2022 22:52

We havent been told my DC's NEA grades. Thank you for the threads and all the links. I'll take a look.

pinkroseapp · 25/05/2022 13:57

DS has been told his history course work result (25% weight), he has got 36 out of 40.

Watapalava · 25/05/2022 22:42

Pink rose
