Hello

I'm looking at moving to Worcester Park, I've read that Cheam High School & Glenthorn offer some places each yr to kids in this area. Does anyone know how the distance is measured? is it as the crow flies? thank you

Yes it is as the crow flies from a particular junction in Worcester Park. I'm sure you are aware that any distances published are how far out they went in previous years and not formal catchments, so the distances will change each year.

'Last offer' distances, published by councils and schools, are often used by estate agents and commercial websites to represent 'catchments' but they are misleading. The distances used are ususually just for National Offer Day in March, so don't reflect any subsequent waiting list movement. To get the September distances you would need to put in a freedom of information request to the local council's admissions team. That's what people do in my borough. Some of the distances increase significantly between March and September because there is a lot of drop-out to the private sector.

thank you for the replies.

@BendingSpoons yes but I assumed as long as you are well within it should be ok?

@dynamight I was wondering about that & did assume the published distance was from original offers which would then change.

We haven't ruled out privates or grammars but thought it was good to have a back up.

Glenthorne is up to 27 places within 1.5km from a particular junction (see their admissions policy).
Cheam High is up to 30 places within 1.1km of Dorchester Primary School.
Both as the crow flies.
Admissions policies can change though; Glenthorne were consulting on adding priority to 2 primary schools but I'm not sure what came of that or whether the WP criterion would remain untouched by that change.
