Positive stories of changing school aged 13

Hi, just looking for reassurance really. We're moving city, so DS will be starting year 9 in a new school.

I am quite excited about moving, it is all for good reasons, apart from the anxiety that we're disrupting DS's life.

He's doing well at school, has friends but no one he's particularly close with outside of school (covid effect I think).

Anyone else moved at a similar age who can tell me everything is going to be ok???

Hi. My son started school when he was 13, after being home educated. It took him about 6-8 weeks to make new friends and he settled in really well. He wasn’t interested in the after school clubs though.
I hope it goes well.

Watching with interest, as its possible my daughter could move at start of year 9 (have previously posted about this)

Good luck

Thanks @Tornado70 that's good to know that he settled in well.

He generally gets on with people so i am really hopeful he'll find new friends soon enough but keep worrying about him.

I keep telling myself it will be character building and we all have to learn to cope with change... but it's so hard at the same time!

I moved DS at the start of year 9 due to bullying. It was the best thing I could have done for him. He settled in, made friends and his SEN were better supported. Year 9 is an ideal time if they are going to move as they have the continuity through options/GCSEs.
