Birmingham Secondary waiting list movement

So in Birmingham we dont have to contact LA to accept our places for secondary only if we are rejecting the place, so it works on the assumption that unless otherwise stated, all will be starting at their allocated school. With advice always not to reject place, will the most movement of waiting lists be in September when there are no shows? Or can I still expect there to be some movement before term starts? Thank you in advance

There will always be some movement.
People move house or a job takes them to a different part of the country. Very occasionally a child might get the holy grail of a special school place. Occasionally someone will change their mind about their choice.

There's usually quite a lot of movement in the first few weeks but no way to tell where.

You may to start at the offered school but be prepared to move after a few weeks as kids shuffle between schools.

Thank you kite and corned beef for your replies. My daughter is 6th on the list for my 1st preference. I suppose I have to hope that those who wont be taking up their place actually let the LA know rather than just not turn up on the day! I seem to be spending hours of my time trying to work out what will happen eventhough the rational part of me knows its a question without a definitive anwser! If students that are down to start do not attend the transition day, will their parents be contacted then to see if child still wants place or will they still have to wait until September to see if they will attend? Thank you.

The grammars are likely to see less movement, but the non-grammars a bit more as people move house, or take up private offers they were hoping to drop if they got a grammar.

Even in LAs where you do have to accept the place, there’s quite a high burden on the LA to show that they are absolutely sure you don’t want the place, so it may not be that different to other areas in reality.

Thank you @EduCated for your reply.
Looks like I just have to be patient and hope for the best really. I think Birmingham has a shortage of secondaries as it is so I was hoping someone with experience of being on a wait list in Birmingham could tell me how it went for them?
