How much revision are your Y11 DC doing this Easter?

My DD revised for hours every day for her mocks. She tends to have phases and that was a revision phase. Now she’s closer to her actual GCSEs she’s not doing much at all. She’s not feeling any urgency. As far as I can tell, she’s done a bit of RS and some painting for Art.
How much would you expect she should be doing?

My DD is mostly working on her drama portfolio (now finished) and is doing hours and hours of art to complete her art portfolio (she is very much a perfectionist - I suspect she is going OTT).
She's probably doing 2-3 hours of actual revision a day. Plus she's having quite a few days/afternoons off so it's maybe only half the days she's actually revising.
She revised really hard for 2 sets of mocks though, so she is in a pretty good place already.

lanthanum · 13/04/2022 21:13

Very little. She's in a fairly good place, but I had hoped for a bit more during this holiday.

HaggisBurger · 13/04/2022 21:14

About 2 hrs a day. If even…. I studied about 8 hours a day for my GCSEs 🤷🏻‍♀️

catchingzzzeds · 13/04/2022 21:16

Nothing this first week as he's just returned from a 5 day GCSE field trip and he's rundown and exhausted but next week we've agreed he'll knuckle down

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/04/2022 21:20

Very little.
And they’ve not done much at all before these holidays either
The general consensus at parent’s evening is that they’re doing ok but have the potential to do really well with some work.
We’ll settle for ok tbh. They’re fully aware. It’ll be enough to get them onto their college course next year and without stress and arguments which after the last couple of years is a good result..

DS is in Y10 so mostly placemarking. Debating with DH if a week away at Easter next year would be a good alternative to the usual week at May half term or if DS will need to be at home to revise.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2022 21:25

Not as much as I’d hoped.

Akite · 13/04/2022 21:26

Very little. It's a constant battleground which is not good for anyone but she just can't be motivated. She was on course for really good grades but the last few months she's really given up.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2022 21:27

I wonder if they all have. It’s been non stop exams so far.

TattiePants · 13/04/2022 21:29

DS has been in school for revision sessions for the last 2 days (maths & English yesterday, science today) so hasn’t done much independent revision yet. That’s starting tomorrow…..

Akite · 13/04/2022 21:32

That's very true. Two lots of mocks and TAG assessments, we're all very fed up with it. Poor kids have had a shit experience the last two years.
Beachbabe1 · 13/04/2022 21:35

I have given my son the Easter hols off revision as hes just completed mocks and it was his 16th in the hols! He needs a break and re-set!
Revision timetable is ready for next week though! 2 hours after school Monday to Thursday. So hard to constantly push them and keep them motivated but im trying!
Just pray he gets what he needs for college. Its so nerve wracking!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/04/2022 21:39

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow ours had mocks after Feb half term so school have been on at them since before Christmas.

This years current year 10 have mocks after these Easter holidays so everything will be far more spread out for them.

The current year 11’s seem to have had relentless pressure since
schools reopened. We locked down before they had even chosen their GCSE options (ours take them in year 9, I’m aware not all schools do that). Everything has been crammed into a very short space of time with no chance for reflection and real learning. It’s definitely tough going for them. They’re still so young and not had the chance to mature like they usually would have done over the past couple of years.

They need to be very proud of everything that they achieve,

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/04/2022 21:41

I’m sick of my dd revising. She’s just had non stop exams since September. It’s just not fair on them.

Housetreecar · 14/04/2022 20:58

Mine seems to be cracking on with science and a bit of history. They only had their last sets of assessments last week so they’re totally exams out and I think in a pretty good place given the amount of testing

NiceTwin · 14/04/2022 21:01

Mine has done very little and I am okay with that.
She worked hard for both sets of mocks and will pick it up when she is back in school next week.

Chasingsquirrels · 14/04/2022 21:03

Between 2 & 4 hours, although he was at his dad's last week and he pushes him to do more.

MrsAvocet · 14/04/2022 21:05

A few hours each day, though I'm not sure how much of the time he says is revision actually is. I think he thinks I can't hear thar he is playing his guitar if it's not plugged into to the amp!

Nantucketsoundsummer · 14/04/2022 23:26

DS has been working all day every day since he came home from boarding school. He takes a break for meals and then gets straight back to it.
He sends work to some of his teachers and they mark it. He came home with lots of papers and advice and certainly seems to be sticking to it.
