GCSE Statistics

My son is in Year 10 and has been studying GCSE Statistics since September. He has a one hour lesson, once a week after school, as it's an additional GCSE. In both sets of mocks he's achieved a mid 4.

He has the actually exams in June this year, and having gone through the revision books with him, it's clear he knows very little. He has no interest in it and it won't be of use to him in the future.

I want to let him drop it, but his father thinks he should continue. We are divorced so it's not his father who'll be nagging him to revise and falling out with him over it!

What would you do?

Let him drop it.
or possibly continue with the lessons and let him take it next year if he still wants to take it (sounds like he doesn't).

Not worth the hassle over an "extra" GCSE.

Thanks @RedskyThisNight

I think it's as simple as this, his father does not! I'd rather he put the effort into the GCSE's he wants and needs.

Drop it. Focus on his other GSCEs.

I agree it sounds pointless to take it. However bear in mind that school will have entered him for the exam a while ago, so you may need to talk to them. I have no idea how late you can withdraw but you don’t want an X on your GCSE certificate.

Thanks @clary, I hadn't considered that. I will email his teacher and find out.
