We are planning to move to Sutton in June. My DD will be in year 8 in coming Sept. Just wondering when the In year admission test will take place, in mid or late June? Does anyone have an idea?

I think they only run an in-year test if they have a place, so no fixed dates. Have they told you they plan to run a test in June?

Thanks BendingSpoons.
School has also mentioned that they will only run a test if vacancy is there. What I am thinking is July is school holiday, they probably make it in June ;P Just want to see if there is a pattern on the schedule.

I would have thought it will really depend on how much notice the parents give the school. In my experience (with my own DC) parents tend to give school little notice, as many moves may be subject to delays in selling a home, etc.

DS was at a super-selective. I think they only had three 'in-year' places become available in the five years up to GCSEs.

Wally Girls has a larger year group though, so I guess more likely that in-year places may become available. However, there are likely to be more DC on the waiting list (the super sought after schools seem to have people holding out for a place for all year groups!) than for the comprehensives, so competition will be fierce!

Good luck! But I would seriously investigate other options too, as it's not realistic to bank on thinking your DD will get an in-year place at Wally Girls. Certainly not when you want it! Of course, you could ask the school how likely it is. They'll probably be able to give you stats for five years or so?

I would really research all school options. We spoke to one of the better comps in that area last year for an occasional year 8 place and weee told there we’re still 80 people on the waitlist, so I imagine that there will be strong competition for all places in all sectors.

@Lockdowndramaqueen, yes indeed.

Wally Girls will run a mid term test once they have a vacancy(ies). In my experience in the past they have tended to run a mid term test in September or October but it does vary.

Talking to a taxi driver back in 2018 when we were doing this madness and driving back from the girls Tiffin exam, he told us that his daughter took an in-year test for Wallington Girls 10 years earlier. There were two places that became available for Year 9.

90 girls took the test. His daughter got one of the two places. From the moment she started he said she never stopped studying, and needed tutoring in quite a few subjects to catch up.

She went on to do science A-levels hoping to become a doctor. In the end she was one grade off and settled on becoming a pharmacist. She said she couldn't cope with being on a waiting list again, waiting to be if she'd be accepted into medical school, she's already done that at WG.

Year 9 is a pivotal year (as is Year 3 in primaries, with many well-off families putting their DC in preps at that stage), as families may choose to move, ahead of the GCSE years.
