Y12, summer in Spain?

DS is studying Spanish for A level and thinking about MFL for his degree. He's keen to spend some of the summer following Y12 in Spain. Is anyone aware of a language school, activity or similar that might be suitable?

Don Quijote / Enforex might be good place to start.
DD did 3 weeks with them between GCSEs and A level.
They might be 'beneath him' though.
(Alternatively maybe he could be an assistant teacher rather than student.)

There are loads of language schools in Spain. If I were him, personally I would first decide on the cities and regions which interest me (obviously being aware of the other languages which could be spoken there), then search for language schools or activities in those areas. I've used International House before and I liked it, although I was an adult rather than a teenager when I used them. You could also look on university websites for summer schools.

Throughout July (and sometimes in August) a lot of school kids in Spain take part in “escuelas de verano” or “campamentos”

These are along the lines of American Summer Camps. If your son is still 17 for that summer he might want to attend one along with other Spanish youngsters his own age.

They are all over the country but information will be in Spanish rather than English. He would probably want to avoid those that have a strong English teaching bias.

Here are a few examples that cater to his older age group, I’d recommend those that have activities that correspond with his own interests.

Salamanca near Madrid is known for its language schools. A very pure form of castellano spoken in the region. I would advise staying with a host family otherwise they will just speak English outside of class.

Definitely stay with a family. From the age of 13, I used to visit my pen friends in France and Germany for a couple of weeks at a time. The first time I went, I couldn't understand anything for the first week.

I gave up a French at 16 but was pretty fluent in German by 18 - which was merely from lessons at my school and visiting my pen friend once a year. I never went to any language lessons abroad.

The main thing with learning a language is being immersed in it and this being forced to speak it.

I have a degree in German.

I forgot to say OP definition try to get your DD to Spain. It is the only way you can become confident in a language.

I mean DS!
