Does anyone have any recent experience, advice and opinions about Kingswood House School in Epsom? We are thinking of it for our son for year 7, Sept 23 start. He is currently in year 5 at a state primary. We live near Cobham so he would need to get a school bus, I think we are on their bus route. He is dyslexic and very artistic. We have booked a tour but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Do many kids stay on at the school for year 7 or are there lots of new starters at year 7? We are thinking of it also because of the study centre. Thanks

Hi CookieCakes6,

I have only just seen your post so this may come too late but we have a son in primary at KHS who is very happy there. He moved from a local state primary (where he was very unhappy, in a large, noisy class). It is a kind, inclusive and encouraging school which develops children's self-confidence (made a huge difference to my son). A big range in children's sports and academic abilities. Many children have EHCPs and/or are dyslexic but certainly not all. No experience of the study centre but have heard positive things about it. Not huge sports facilities due to fairly small site - no swimming pool or theatre (if they're important) and use Parsons Mead sports fields in Ashtead for sports matches and some training. Plans in place to build sports hall, I believe. Very impressed with sports teachers, though (and other teachers). Went co-ed this year. Numbers of girls quite small atm but likely to grow. Understand that approx one-third of current yr 6 will leave with rest staying on.

Hope this helps.

I’ve a v bright aspergers boy with anxiety and issues with emotional regulation (he gets overly upset with perceived failure) not aggressive - low self esteem but coping in academic mainstream private (but not sure he’s thriving). I’m wondering about somewhere like Kingswood - might be better for him to gain social confidence than focus on academics. Wonder if he’d find mixed ability irritating - lots of noise disruption etc - or do they cater for bright kids too. Any cures if other schools for ASD kids mainstream or special in Surrey area.

@CookieCakes6 did you choose a school for your son? I’m also looking for a place for my son for year 7 for Sept 23.

No we have stayed out - for now. But still looking. Do DM me if you like. Hard to get it right and can’t be going from pillar to post. Don’t really want 11 plus stress.
