Ds2 has mocks this week so he did revise over half term. School also set tasks to complete which they can monitor online due to the system ie Hegarty Maths.
Ds is very high achieving and he wants amazing grades. He is motivated even for English lit which he detests but I help him with that and he comes to it willingly. It is frustrating for him when all his other subjects come very easily to him.
He will be doing revision on evenings but for some subjects it is just keeping them ticking over, more sitting papers compiled by school than revision, more applying the knowledge as a way to test himself.
Easter will see him full throttle.
@Imsittinginthekitchensink the most important thing your DD can do right now is not panic. She has time. The best advice I can give is to make sure you see the mock papers she sat. Hopefully school will either go over the papers in class and they then insert or expand their answers to what the mark scheme wants or school may provide you with the mark scheme. Armed with this knowledge she can see where she can gain more marks the next time that question is asked.
There are 2 prongs to revision, one learning the facts, and two applying that knowledge. ie for science, identify why she didn't get full marks for the question, was it a maths error? Or she knew the content but couldn't apply it? Did she read the question properly? Was it bad communication? Did she make enough points ie if it is a 4 marker did she make only 2 points? If you can see a pattern you can help her address it.
I will tell you that Ds1 at this stage was a consistent 6 in History, knew all the facts of what happened but was not great at essay writing. His teacher said he'll probably get a 7 in the exams. I went with Ds to see his teacher so he could tell me how to help my child. He was great, laid it out for me and Ds. Ds worked on it, could see results in class and got a 9 in the end.
Mocks are a great way to identify where they need to work.
