Anyone thinking of dropping CLSG offer?

My very close friend is in waiting list and apparently school emailed saying things are not moving. How was the offer holders morning can I ask?

We will probably accept our offer but do know two others planning to decline. The open day was very informal and lots of current pupils were involved which gave a good insight into how much they enjoyed being at the school. It was the first time I was there and not surprisingly the feel of the school is very different from others we’d seen further out of town, purely down to location and facilities. This hasn’t put my daughter off at all but am sure for some it will be a consideration

Many people are waiting on state school offers which are out on Tuesday and then they have until 15th March to decide, so expect all wait lists private and state to start moving after that.

Hello
We are also holding CLSG and Habs offers.
We have been to both offer holders event and the schools are very different, still so confused!
My DD should travel 40mins on the Met line and we are not too sure anyone from CLSG school will join her on the same line and on the same train! We tried the journey again today in the rush hour, there was a signal failure and delays..maybe we were just unfortunate.
To get to Habs she should just get on the school coach on a 45mins journey.
We have been to Habs 3 times and I think we kind of understood all the pros and cos that school has for us. We visited City only once, on the offer holders event, and to be honest the confusion of seeing so many girls and parents, the different atmosphere compared to Habs, made me think. Still we like the more diverse environment at CLSG but we feel that we didn't have enough time to " fully appreciate" the school and worried about making the wrong choice.
Anyone in the same situation whose DD will travel on the Met line to get to CLSG?

Hi AnyLondon,

We have accepted CLSG offer this week and my dd will be travelling by Met Line and it's roughly 45mins journey for us too.

Anyone know if CLSG WL position moved at all? Anyone received offer from WL?

@11plusmum1 do you have alternative mode at all for the days like tube strikes? Or school has provision in place for those days?

Some students had to dial into lessons for the tube strikes, but most were able to get in.

My daughter goes to CLSG, and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. She had a range of offers and it was a tough decision but she is now sure it was the right one. She doesn’t come in from your part of London but I wanted to reply to say 1) they run a ‘travel buddy’ scheme for year 7 pupils (matching you up with an older pupil who is local to you) and 2) their forms for year 7 are broadly based on your local area (N, S, E, W) so your daughter would be likely to meet people making the same or a similar journey.

Manchester7 · 09/03/2022 02:47

Sorry, that was meant for @AnyLondon!

AnyLondon · 09/03/2022 12:04

Thank you all.
With a very heavy heart we withdrew CLSG offer in favour of HABS.
We just followed my daughter's preference.
I am keeping all my fingers crossed we didn't make the wrong choice.
Good luck to all your DDs.

Sorry if this is off topic.. I am hoping that someone on here might be very kind and advise me on this, the CLSG brochure says the exam is not tutorable but you should familiarise your daughter with some provided papers beforehand. Decoded, what does that actually mean? I like the quirkiness of that school but don’t want to waste time and stress on an application if the girls need to have had tutoring for several years in advance. Could a bright, untutored girl actually get in?

Jumpalicious · 21/03/2022 08:20

@RoseWindow they all say this… but your child needs to demonstrate excellent maths and English. Is this tutorable? Well what else is school all about? Academic preps will ensure material is covered, generally state schools will not. That all said, I would not push tutoring at an unwilling child, they will be absolutely miserable at a top academic school. Honestly, they might pass but they WILL be with children who find academia easy…
you know your girl best. If she laps up maths, likes reading etc, and if you feel she isn’t stretched enough at current school them definitely go for it! But ensure the whole curriculum is covered!

Thank you very much Jumpalicious I really appreciate your reply. Lots to think about.
