Secondary Schools near Wilton Salisbury

Hi I'm looking at moving to Wilton (Salisbury) and my daughter is 10, currently in year 5, so we will soon be choosing her secondary school place. Not knowing the area i'm struggling to see a good option for her to go to as all the schools (not grammar/private) that have a good rep seem to be 5+ miles away. This feels a long way for a child to go each day. I have 3 children in total so they would all go there eventually.
I don't want to move and find I have a big problem on my hands and this may actually stop us moving all together. Any advice on schools in the area would be really helpful!

Wiltshire is quite spread out though isn't it, so presumably 5 miles isn't considered 'far' in the scheme of things?
Presumably there would be school buses?
Teenagers who live in Wilton must get to school somehow!

I have a friend with DC at Trafalgar that they seem pretty happy with, but I think that is the wrong side of Salisbury for you?

Yes this is true, I think its because where we live now anything over 2/3 miles from a secondary schools is considered 'far'. It's so hard to know what is normal elsewhere and how children cope with it. I can't imagine my DD going off on her own on a bus in just over a years time! I may look into the school bus services though for the further schools as it could be the answer.
Thanks.

Kids grow up massively in y6-y7. What seems unimaginable now will see second nature by October half term y7. You would need to talk through 'what ifs' though to help confidence and safety.

My friend's daughter went to St Edmunds and they really rated it. Lots of people walked but also others went on the bus.
We don't live anywhere near but almost everyone at my children's school went on public buses from the first day of year 7. Honestly it's fine - they grow up really fast.

Highly recommend WyvernStEds (boys and girls schools have now merged) and many children travel by bus to get there. Alternatively there is St Joseph's (Catholic) or Sarum Academy which I think is the catchment school for Wilton.

South Wilts Grammar is popular.
