Ebacc for Oxbridge?

DD is about to pick her GCSE options. School are really pushing the Ebacc and saying it's necessary for Oxbridge/ top universities. Is there any truth in this?

DD doesn't want to do History or Geography and wants to do Psychology instead, which is a subject she's really interested in. Her other options are individual sciences and French and Spanish.

None whatsoever. It's a measure for schools only. Hope she enjoys psychology!

Not true. Look at cam.ac.uk undergraduate admissions. They have a section on GCSEs

is it an either or question?

imo ibac is worth it for many for breadth of subject and subsequently options. but I understand it's not for everyone.

No!

Ebacc is not required for Oxbridge at all. They are mistaken (talking bollocks)

Thanks everyone

It's actually really poor for the school to be telling you this, OP. They must know it isn't true, the Ebacc is primarily for a school's benefit, that's why they want your DD to cover it, but universities aren't bothered.

Totally not true. Some of our strongest students don't do the EBacc and go off to Oxbridge and other hard to get into courses. The real question is what do you do instead and what grades do you get.
