Returning to U.K. system from IB

We are due to return to the U.K. with my daughter having completed her Middle Years IB instead of GCSE’s. Has anyone got any experience or advice about how easy it will be for her to go straight into A Levels - will she be limited on subjects / struggle with the content / need specific grades ???
Any advice gratefully received so we can start to plan. TIA

Have you excluded the possabiliy that she can continue with IB ?

Not completely it’s just that in the area we are moving to it’s only available in the Private sector and it’s £££

What area are you moving to?
There are 3 years of post 16 funding in the UK.
It would probably be advantageous for your dd to take GCSEs in Maths and English language because these will be needed by UK universities and future jobs.
It may be possible to take one of these alongside A levels in the first year and the second one alongside A levels in the second year. Alternatively your dd may need to take a year where she is taking some GCSEs and level 2 qualifications to get used to studying in the UK followed by 2 years of A levels. This was offered at dds sixth form college.
Sixth form entry is usually based on GCSE results but alternative qualifications could be accepted.

Hmmm this was my worse case scenario in that her position will not be recognised... we are moving to Bristol and under the U.K. system would start her A Levels - trying to avoid her having to take ‘catch up’ lessons .... to me taking several A Levels and GCSE’s in English and Maths sounds unrealistic and she definitely isn’t up for repeating a year and being behind her peers....thanks foe the comments but it doesn’t feel a good position for her

I’m a teacher and we would definitely recognise IB qualification in place of GCSE’s; I know a number of private schools who solely offer IB at level 2 and then onto A levels. It would be an issue if your child wanted to do medicine or the like in the future due to the 2 science model in IB.

Thanks foe the clarification- huge relief as it’s so confusing and I couldn’t find a concrete answer on the web. Thinking about the science issue would you know if that would be an issue if she’s looking at going down the engineering route ? Thx

I know several dcs who have progressed to medical school following IB study.
OP can you send me a pm? I have experience of sixth forms in Bristol.
I don't necessarily mean that your dd will have to repeat a year or take GCSEs, but that the sixth form will do some sort of assessment to make sure that she is at the right level for A level / IB study.
