What's in the GCSE & A Level exams 2022

In case you hadn't heard, today the exam boards are publishing their Advance Information on what topics will be the major focus of the Summer exams. It's definitely worth checking out the information on their websites. But also worth noting that it doesn't mean other topics won't come up in the lower mark questions.

Our teens would do well to cover everything if they can. Not only to pick up marks but can you imagine turning over a paper to find the first question is on something you were told not to revise?! That could knock their confidence from the start.

AQA still haven't finished uploading theirs Hmm

It's not as if the date has come as a surprise!

Notonetojudge · 07/02/2022 12:07

I can’t find any ‘updates’ dated today, they all still seem to be from December. Anyone got a link? AQA mainly.

Is this for parents or teachers? Will the teachers adapt their teaching now to focus on these subjects, or continue as normal with the onus on students/parents to find out this new information and revise accordingly?
I find it all very stressful and am hoping the school will teach my DC accordingly now the exam framework has been narrowed down.

Diditreallylookawful · 07/02/2022 12:27

Oh heck - while I'm delighted that they're doing this (of course), but it's an awful lot to wade through. Think I'll need a large glass of wine before I tackle this ...

CornishGem1975 · 07/02/2022 13:46

Just been going through this - the science info is going to be helpful for revision for sure.

spiderlight · 07/02/2022 13:49

Can anyone access the WJEC? I'm getting 'Error 403 - Forbidden.
The web app you have attempted to reach has blocked your access.'

Notonetojudge · 07/02/2022 13:59

Thanks both.
What about the timetable though? I’ve been hearing that they were going to space out exams but can’t see any changes?

We've already had that confirmed by the school. The first one is 17 May, the last one is 23 June.

@Notonetojudge if you DM me the exam codes I can send you a list of the dates if you like.

@spiderlight they are saying that they will be available by 5pm today. www.wjec.co.uk/home/2022-everything-you-need-to-know/as-a-level-and-gcse-assessment-arrangements-2022/advance-information/

Following @seeline's links to AQA and OCR here's Edexcel's (both GCSE and iGCSE). You have to download the zip of all of the syllabuses.

@nathanmcgurl no don’t worry, there’s 24 of them 😬
It’s just that I went through the dates yesterday and put them on our calendar, but then heard today that there are date changes to take into account kids who miss the exams due to covid and how spreading them out means they only miss a couple not 10.

nathanmcgurl · 07/02/2022 16:30

@Notonetojudge it wouldn't be a problem at all - I have a spreadsheet! (by 24 I'm assuming you mean dates rather than subjects!!)

I heard about possible changes to the timetabling, but I just don't see how it would be practical to move them around. If you had even a couple of days between each exam you'd need a couple of years to run the series!!

OP posts:
Notonetojudge · 07/02/2022 16:35

@nathanmcgurl exactly what I thought… they’d be doing them alongside A Levels Grin

User12398712 · 07/02/2022 16:40

It isn't spaces between exams though, I don't think. It's spaces between papers so that you might miss 10 papers but they would all be from different subjects and you should be out of isolation to do the other paper or papers for that subject to be marked on.

nathanmcgurl · 07/02/2022 17:15

@spiderlight WHEC/Eduqas is now live.

Yes! E.g. now I know that exact trig values are on the gcse, they’ll be hammered into them. Large dataset isn’t mentioned at A-level so we probably won’t bother with it at all.

In our school as soon as we’ve had a chance to clarify any queries we email parents with a clear explanation of what the changes mean and how the school will be dealing with them. Mind you some of the A level changes look like they were decided by a drunkard with a machete - particularly in history.

I teach English. None of the information makes an iota of difference.

Tynetime · 07/02/2022 19:12

It's a bit shut really fo dd. Computer science hasn't given advance notice of all questions and I think some of the science ones are wooly.
Yet you have the news reporting on how generous grade boundaries will be. Err no. Better than 2019 but worse than 2020 and 2021.
