Partial school closures

Hi

My son is in year 9 and throughout September, November and December, his school had partial closures that affected his year due to staff shortages. He was due back today and his year has yet again been subject to a closure for the rest of the week. He is supposed to be doing online learning, but more often than not, the lessons are not online. He is home alone as I have to work.

I can imagine this is due to teachers with Covid. However, I am not aware of any other school on the area that has this same problem.

I fear for my child's education. I don't know who to talk about it with apart from the school which I have already done. Surely there are supply teachers and this cannot be allowed. If I was to take my child out of education this often, I would be fined!

Surely there are supply teachers

There wasn’t one supply teacher available in the area to be found for our absences tomorrow when we ring this morning-not a single one.

That sounds frustrating but it can’t really be helped can it? There aren’t enough supply teachers and schools have no money left to pay them anyway.

BluebellsGreenbells · 04/01/2022 17:52

Good luck finding supply.

How do you think your son will be educated by a string of supply teachers without any subject knowledge? Don’t know the children, don’t know where they are level wise, no idea of their medical details etc

If your child has been sent home, it’s because it’s not safe for them to be there.

That’s Covid for you -

Plenty of lessons available here

When my dc tells me there is no work online, usually this turns out not to be the case he just hasn't looked in the right place.
Not saying this is the case for you but worth considering!

@Debroglie thank you so much, these lessons look really good!

You sure must have heard about the shortage of supply teachers right now?!

Also how has someone so concerned about their child’s education got two years into the pandemic and not heard of Oak Academy lessons?!

My DS’s year 10 classes were closed today, they had to go in this morning, show evidence of a negative test and collect a work pack to do at home today. This was last minute due to staff covid absences, not planned for testing. They are in tomorrow and they will let us tomorrow night about Thursday.

I suspect this will be how the next month / two months will go. Back to in / out / shake it all about.
