It is the one thing my children kept to themselves, sadly it can make them a target.

I don't know why you would inform school though. For what purpose?

Encourage them to tell their form tutor - it's always good to know about achievements outside school, especially if they don't particularly shine at anything in school.
We only discovered that one lad was a very skilled darts player when I noticed and commented on how quick he was at subtraction. He wasn't a high-achiever in other respects (which was why I was surprised by the subtraction), so it was great to be able to celebrate his darts successes.

Mine does too, but she didn't want me to tell them! I think it's a huge achievement and it should be in the newsletter, but she is having none of it!

My child isn’t the sort that likes attention , all of his friends know that he is a black belt in karate , I’m not quite sure what you mean by being made a target onthebenchofdoom
I’m just wondering if it’ll be a good thing for future uni applications & yes outside school achievements lanthanum.
We do have newsletters once a week but achievements aren’t mentioned at this stage

The only reason for telling the school would be if your child wanted you to (and the school actually did something with the information).

If your child doesn't like attention why on earth would you tell the school ...?

You can still put it on a uni application if you want.
