Non selective kind school

I am really in need of some help. My dd has adhd, mild dyslexia and convergence problems with her eyes. She is also currently a year behind her peers at school. I am trying to find the right secondary school for her.

We are in London and CofE so could apply for Grey Coats, St Marylebone and maybe Twyford in Ealing. She doesn't have an EHCP. She just comes under the radar for that. She's going to need to go to a school with a lot of support. I am very supportive of the state system. I have two other children that are at state secondary schools. But I don't know whether dd will get that at state school.

So far in the independent sector, I have looked at

The Academy
Portland Place
Maida Vale school
St Christopher's
Thames Christian School
Fairley House

Does anyone know of any other ones im missing? I am happy to look out of London too.

Mill hill or mount house school.

XelaM · 26/11/2021 16:28

Mount House is lovely and truly non-selective (they only have an entry test to check the child's level)

XelaM · 26/11/2021 16:28

I thought Mill Hill was selective?

Meadowbreeze · 26/11/2021 16:48

@xelam I mean yes but I wouldn't call it that. Very similar to mount house. My DD who has an EHCP for dyslexia, dyscalculia and language processing had an offer last year. She's definitely not working at age level.

Have a look at More House in Knightsbridge. It is a very happy inclusive all girls school.

Doofas · 26/11/2021 17:03

Any Montessori schools nearby?

Soma · 26/11/2021 17:51

@Stuffragette Mount House on paper should be lovely, but the support for neurodiverse students is woeful. St Margaret's in Bushey is a much better option, also she could join the year below if needs be. It has much better resources than Mount House and isn't beholden to venture capitalists.

I also believe Mill Hill to be selective.

Meadowbreeze · 26/11/2021 19:15

Every school is selective. Even state schools. Just in different ways. In our very recent experience we didn't feel mill hill was very academically selective. I can't speak for Belmont though.

Pencilsready · 26/11/2021 22:14

You might like to look at Canbury School.

HermioneGrangersWand · 27/11/2021 12:24

I would second taking a look at More House SW1.

Stuffragette · 28/11/2021 10:44

Wow thanks so much everyone for your replies. I have emailed Belmont/Mill Hill but not heard back from them yet.

I hadn't heard of St Margaret's or More House. Going to google them now.

I'm actually a Montessori teacher so that child led philosophy would be perfect. I think that's sort of what I'm looking for in a school. I just want somewhere she won't get lost. She's such a happy child I can't bear the idea of her feeling like she's failing.

Thanks so much for all your replies though. I really appreciate it

I believe Greycoats is quite academic. I am not sure they will be supportive of your child's needs.
