Tassomai as the only homework

I don't know if I'm being a bit out of order to query this with the teacher so I wanted to check if this is generally the norm. My Y9 DD only ever gets tassomai as homework. One daily task per week. She has never got any other homework since Sept and before that tassomai was heavily used with other bits here and there.
I don't doubt tassomai is helpful but they are doing GCSE content and this takes her 5 mins, is multiple question and is nothing like her exam will be. Compared to her other subjects this is really not even homework. I'm not against this altogether but I am wondering if I'm being a bit tiger mum to email the teacher and query this?
We were asked to buy a whole pack of revision guides and flashcards in the beginning of school year but they're still sealed. Shes never been asked to use them or shown how. Shes in the lower middle set so I would hope they would at least be set that as homework.
I don't expect the school to spoon feed them but this seems very little.

My child has 3/4 Tassomai per week. 2 Bedrock tasks (English) and 3 Hegarty (Maths) tasks plus optional Memri. They also get a planner so do 10 Q &A every day from a knowledge organiser as well as expected to complete reading every week. Just science on its own and no further encouragement seems little, but my kid has tons and often finishes after 6pm. He’s year 9.

@Vallmo47 that does sound like a lot. Are they in a grammar? DD gets a reasonable amount from other subjects, often really great hw too. I help her a lot. I am really concerned about science though.

I'm a teacher. Apart from revision homework is useless and imho sets expectations that people have to work after they have done a full days work as well.

Other countries don't have it and they get higher attainment than UK schools

I would be glad she's done it in 5 mins and she can enjoy downtime with her family and friends

Nevermindthesquirrels · 24/11/2021 15:40

@maddy68 really? At Y9 level? What country are you thinking of? My family is in various countries on the continent as yes, in primary years there's very little but not at Y9 level.
Even revision though. We were asked to buy £20 with of books and other bits but she's not had one session showing how to use them. I can obviously show her but she's in a lower level class, they can't assume every parent will be doing this.

I have taught all over. Homework is just not done or even considered in many countries

Nevermindthesquirrels · 24/11/2021 15:56

@maddy68 that's interesting. It seems to be a world of extremes. I find though that many places have much better behaviour in class so a lot more gets done in lesson. Happy to be corrected though.
My DD also had end of term exams. Her class was given a higher tier exam paper instead of lower. They've not learnt to the higher tier, they're a low set. Would you say as a teacher you could still gauge where the kids where at or would you have to repeat the test?

@Nevermindthesquirrels No it’s just a bog standard secondary school. Not even a very good one, I guess that’s what they are aiming to improve. Feels a bit like a prison camp but that’s a different story. Lol.

I’m sure your child will be fine, just support in any way you can. :)
