Any idea what sorts of things they're likely to ask her about? It's tomorrow so it's not like she's going to spend ages worrying about it, but I'd like her to have a couple of ideas of things she might talk about...

What is she reading at the moment? Who is the prime minister? What happened in Glasgow last week? What does she enjoy at school? What subject doesn't she like at school and why? Why would she like to come to this school?
Does she have any questions? Idea replies from her are - what residential trips can I go on in the first year? Make sure she asks a question she kind of knows the answer to so if need be she can then sustain a conversation about the topic.

Sometimes they ask "what other schools are you applying to" - make sure she answers truthfully but at the same time implies she wants to go there - not "this is my back up school, I really want to go to XXX with my friends"!

My daughter is applying to a school and has had to fill out a form, which will be the basis of the interview.

Some questions are:

Have you ever held a position of responsibility? (tbh, I would be surprised many 10 year olds have)

What would you like to do for a living when you’re an adult?

Usual about hobbies and interests outside school

What appeals you most about this school?

Like the poster above said, make sure she has a couple of questions about the school.

I don’t think they need to be super interesting questions that no 10 year old would ask. I remember when we visited the school, the headmaster said the question they get asked the most is ‘what’s the food like?’

Good luck!

Thank you for replying. That's been really helpful.

My daughter got asked last spring

If you won £1m what would you do with it?

How would your friends describe you?

What book you reading? Favourite author?

What do you understand about the Sarah Everard case ( it had just happened a week earlier and I was a bit shocked they asked this to a 10 year old girl but she knew about it vaguely)

She did fine - lasted about 15-20min and she was relaxed and happy when she left. Said it felt like just a chat not like an exam but they did take notes of the answers she gave. She subsequently was offered a place.

Best of luck for today OP! I am sure it will go good.

Thanks everyone! I have no idea how it went as DD couldn't remember a single thing that they talked about in the interview. Apparently they didn't ask her any questions about herself or about her application to the school 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 So who knows! She seemed happy though and said the non-verbal reasoning paper was easy...

@desperate4spring, that is so annoying!

My daughter will probably be the same. One of her interviews will be online At home, I’m tempted to leave my phone in the room recording it… (obv joking…)

She's remembered two of the questions!

  1. If you didn't have a ladder, how could you measure a really tall tree?
  2. Do you think the world is fair?
