Besides, I had enrolled banding test to her before 11+ exam.... A bit worry about these matter, thanks

Your post is a little unclear. But if your child has sat the 11 plus for other schools, that should not prevent them sitting the test for Glenthorne.

I'm assuming that you are referring to schools in a London Borough of Sutton. My children are both a few years into high school now so I'm not on top of all the detail of admissions arrangements, but if you are still worried then do read the admissions information on the school website and that should set things out.

Thanks for your answer, yes my daughter she was passed the 11+ of London borough Sutton school. But I'm just thinking should her still go to glenthorne do the banding test, we had put Glenthorne on the 4th place in CAF form. If do, will it be affect to result of 11+ exam? Or I should email to Sutton council admission team to ask?

They are completely separate so don't worry about them affecting each other. I had registered DD for the banding test but her NSWEE results were good enough to guarantee her a place, so I have cancelled her place in the banding test. If her score had been less clear cut, she would have sat the test and put Glenthorne on the CAF.

Thanks a lot, yes her score just between of the highest and the lowest, that's why I m thinking should her still go the banding test. If no any impact, then just go to take it... Does yours target to nonsuch or wallington?

If you think there is even the slightest chance you might not get your top 3 schools and this one is 4th then do the banding test. Depending on the particular school's admission criteria, those who select the school but then don't take the banding test for it, often end up on the bottom of the schools intake list.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/11/2021 17:05

Glenthorne is a very difficult school to get into unless you are very local or perform brilliantly for the drama/dance/singing places. Don't assume it will be an easy fourth place school. Remember, there may well be a lot of youngsters who were capable of passing the 11+ but didn't take it.

RueDeWakening · 06/11/2021 17:08

DD passed for both WHSG and Nonsuch a few years ago, we knew her score and we/she decided not to sit any banding tests, as those schools were lower down our CAF than a non-grammar school we were confident she'd be offered that didn't use banding.

If you're not completely confident she'll get one of the higher ranked schools, I'd get her to do the banding test - otherwise, your application for that school is ineligible and you may as well not have listed it. But I understand the thought process!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/11/2021 17:09

In the case of oversubscription within each band, priority will be given to:

Priority per band:

Looked after and previously looked after children
Children with exceptional medical or social reasons for attending the school
Children of permanent staff employed at the school
Children who have a sibling at the school
Children living closer to the school

We are much closer to Nonsuch, so although we liked both schools, it's a bit of a no-brainer for us.

Quartz2208 · 06/11/2021 18:52

DD is currently at Nonsuch and also sat the Glenthorne test. She would have gotten into all 3 with her scores

The order counts though put them in the order. We did Nonsuch/Glenthorne/Wallington

Oh, you mean their banding test not easy? Is that means?

Yes, this is what I'm worrying, so struggling to go the banding test or not.... as the third place is greenshaw, just in case the nonsuch and wallington cannot get in, I think will properly to give us to greenshaw, am I right?

Yes, for us same more closer to nonsuch

I don't mean the banding test is really difficult but the number of bands Glenthorne subdivides results into is at least six (if memory serves me correctly). And remember that on top of having a sibling policy, some of the school places are ringfenced for people living in an area (think it's Worcester Park) with scant secondary school provision.

It just makes it difficult to even stand a chance of getting a place unless you are very local indeed (or live in the area mentioned above).

Quartz2208 · 08/11/2021 07:43

It depends on the area - Band 8 and 9 can go out pretty far - we are in Stoneleigh and Band 8 went out as far as London Road. You need one of those two though

Are you in catchment for Nonsuch and Wallington and have you compared your score to those that got in - that should give you an idea

ChristopherTracy · 08/11/2021 12:11

Yes, they have so few in Bands 8 and 9 (as presumably those children would on a good day have got into the grammars so either they had a bad day or didnt sit for the grammars for other reasons) that if you are of that ability in most years you will be offered a place.

Like the poster up thread we were going to sit for Glenthorne as it is a bloody good school but our IC grammar score was high enough that we knew we would be offered a place in March and actually feel strongly that you shouldnt sit on a place that another child could have iyswim.

Quartz2208 · 08/11/2021 12:22

How would that make a difference though ChristopherTracy - they would just move down the list. Your DD being on Band 8/9 wouldnt make any difference they would just not be included on the list and the place would be filled - presumably by the child it would have been either way

ChristopherTracy · 08/11/2021 14:36

Yes, I see that as actually it is all done behind the scenes and you are offered a place or not.
