Can anyone recommend books of past papers or similar for gcse maths and further maths? DS admits he needs to practise more and I think a non online option would be good (so I can take his phone away while he does it for a change)

Which exam board? They have all past papers on their websites along with mark schemes. Edexcel is here qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/exams/past-papers.html

@Sheldock I think it's AQA (?) - and DS has seen all the real past papers through mocks and assessments etc now I think (assessed in June, assessed last month, assessed again in January)

My son is in y11 and they've practiced with other exam boards (eg OCR) as well as the exam board that they actually use (Edexcel)

www.drfrostmaths.com would be good to look at. As a teacher I can download worksheets etc but not sure that's an option for pupils for it not being online.

Or www.google.co.uk/amp/s/corbettmaths.com/contents/%3famp has downloadable materials with answers, linked videos and text book exercises with answers too.

@BananaPB and @BeachShotPutter thank you - good point that we don't need to stick to one exam board. Maybe I'm old school but I'd like to print something out for him to work through - getting him to put down his phone us impossible so any revision he can do online he does, or doesn't do, on his phone

Maths genie is really good, goes over past papers by someone filling them out so you can pause the video write your answer and play again and see if you got it right and how to do it if you got it wrong.
I have found it one of the best ways to learn.
Books can be pretty boring for revising.
A set of headphones on and a pen and paper so he can write out his answers would be great, then you can see how well he is doing as he can mark as he goes.

didireallysaythat · 05/11/2021 22:46

@Pinkspecs completely get what you mean about books being boring for revision. Luckily the school doesn't do text books, so it's just a heap of exercise books with random sheets of paper....

I don't mind music but need to remove Instagram.....

I meant the headphones to listen to the person on the video, might help him focus better.
It helps me when revising with my concentration.
Best of luck.

Corbett Maths do five a day quizzes. Additionally try to buy CGP revision workbooks and those are also happily recommended. You can even get past papers online etc as well. Try doing a few easy or difficult math questions on some past papers to see what needs improvement and what is good.
Math Genie is a excellent revision site. You can print out actual question papers and do them then mark them accordingly afterwards.

I believe there are apps that lock a phone down so that social media etc cannot distract them whilst they study. Some require passwords to unlock it afterwards.
