What happens if we decline offer of top choice school

Two hours to go before submission deadline and we're still debating order of schools. My way of thinking is that if we place one school over the other and decline 1st choice when offer comes through on 1 March, we will automatically drop to 2nd choice, won't we? This would give us plenty more time to decide when the time finally comes to choose between the two schools. However, could someone please confirm that this is what happens? I have a nagging feeling that if we do this, we'll end up losing out on both our top choice schools and risk being allocated a random school in the end.

If you have applied for entry next September, there is nothing you can do until offers come out. At that point, if you want to go on the waiting list for a lower choice than you have been offered, you will have to contact your LA.

@grace1976might be best to update any of your other threads as your query will get lost on this one. Are you saying you put first a school your dc does not want to attend? You are too late to change the application now and will have to see what happens on allocation day in March before making requests for waiting lists. Is school B likely to be oversubscribed? He might change his mind or fall out with friends he thinks will go to B. Ultimately it is your decision as parents and you need to be more confident in your choice and priorities,
