Wallington vs Nonsuch (sutton grammars)

Hello,

DD (in catchment for both schools, but nearer Nonsuch) has a good score in the stage 2 result that came through on Wednesday but I am no nearer deciding which school to put first on the CAF. I've heard people don't like the buildings at Nonsuch and Wallington might be friendlier. I think Nonsuch might be better for sport but am not sure. I know Nonsuch had some bad press earlier this year (or last) which has put me off a bit. How do parents think the school has handled this now? I'm also slightly concerned because I think the main road outside Nonsuch is busy and not that safe at the bend by the park (but there are probably bad roads near Wallington too, I just know that area slightly less well).

Does anyone have older daughters at either school? How are they getting on? I realise there is probably not much to choose between them and we are in a great position to have choice, but I am now struggling with indecision!

There is a thread on this on the 11+forum which you might find helpful. Lots of parents giving their experiences.

We are choosing Nonsuch as is closer and I really like some of the more unusual curriculum options like astronomy and the amazing outdoor space. The extra curricular offer looks good and I like the heads take on mental health. I don’t have first hand experience though. I think you have to go with your gut.

Was also going to mention that thread as quite a few comments and first hand experiences there.

Also choosing Nonsuch as close to us. On the road bend, it is bad, but the girls don't have to cross I don't think as there's a back entrance directly into Nonsuch park near the car park by the main gates (I assume any girl can go in there though I don't have personal experience).

There's also a pedestrian crossing near the main entrance on Ewell road if they come that way. So I wouldn't worry too much about that (it's the kind of thing I do worry about quite a lot so I recognise the concern, but I am pretty local and haven't seen girls crossing at that bend so I think it's quite easy to avoid either by using the back gate or by walking the other side of the road and crossing at the lights).
