Hi all,
My DD sat an entrance exam for an Academic Scholarship. Upon checking w the registrar soon after, we've been informed, that they are busier than usual, but we will get a letter on news about offers soon. Also, that

"Any offers received will not include any scholarships as we have to wait until all of the results are in for Academic Scholarships and this will not be until the end of November. A new offer letter would be sent out if there was an offer of a Scholarship."

So, today we have received an offer, stating, that they are delighted to offer us a place, but

"please note that this offer does not take into account any scholarships which you have applied for including the academic scholarship. If we need to update your offer, a new letter will be sent after the scholarship assessments are complete."

Now, What do you all think?is a scholarship coming to our way, or is it just a tactic?

Thank you for any responses

I would say you cannot read anything either way. Everyone will have the same offer letter or a rejection.

How strange, did everyone sit the entrance exam at the same time (is this 11+ )? Is there more than one sitting of the entrance exam? Did your DD sit a specific scholarship exam after the general entrance exam? Usually a school waits until everyone has sat the entrance exam (more or less), before making offers and usually make scholarship offers at the same time. Or that’s my experience anyway. So it’s hard to tell from the information you have given what might be coming your way. If they aren’t giving any scholarships out yet then there is nothing to suggest it’s a yes or a no, other than having got an offer of a place your DD is still in the running at least!

Ok...
I thought it's a bit strange. She only sat the academic exam (English and Math), and yes, it was the 11+

She sat the exam on the 5th (it was one other child there, but that's it) and the application dead line was the 8th. Received the offer today

Is there a junior/prep school or a second later sitting which perhaps has yet to be assessed.

pearcherry · 20/10/2021 18:06

Maybe the sport/drama/art scholars!?

Odd to sit the exam before application deadline. Ime the exam and interview is after the deadline with one extra sitting for those unable to attend. Cocurricular scholarships are separate.

Only 2 children sat the entrance exam?!

pearcherry · 21/10/2021 12:14

Seeeline,
On that day only two, yes. I presume they had different days Hmm

I really am not sure, I was surprised seeing only two of them

seems strange. Definitely the school follows a very different approach. All the indies I am applying for my daughter (this is in and around London) have deadline end of October. Only after the deadline passes will we receive date for entrance exam. Due to social distancing etc, the exam will be spread over few days, but just 2 children sitting on the day is not I would expect. How many actually applies in that school do you know? Because if it is like in hundreds (usually thats the number here), there will be several in each sitting. Also, many schools issue offer letter (including if any scholarship granted) and then ask parents to apply for bursary. So scholarship exams happens before that as well. Decision on bursary happens after few weeks, but the initial offer is irrespective of bursary received.

Thanks for all your replies so far.

Not a clue, about how many children will or did apply...
We are in the East of England, the trend I see here, is to have pre-prep private Ed., and send children who passed the 11plus to the nearby(ish) grammar
