Hi, am looking for a secondary school for my daughter. Her sister is in a very selective secondary school but she is different academically and that's ok. I just want to find the right school for her. Any experience of any of the above schools and how hard are the exams for Sutton and Surbiton?

Hi, my daughter has just started at Coombe Girls and I’ve been very impressed so far, with the academic side of things and with the sport, music and pastoral

Coombe is state - the other two are private, are you looking for a specific type of school?

We live very close to Coombe so she would definitely get it but am worried about the class sizes and I would like to know to what extent they support pupils who may not be at the top of the class versus e.g. smaller schools like Sutton (I know Sutton is private) where class sizes are smaller - would kids who are in that situation get more attention? I was wondering if there was specifically anyone out there with a child at Coombe or the other two schools whose child is perhaps not at the very top of the class and how do the teachers help to bring out the very best in that child?

Don’t have a child at these schools yet, but Sutton and Surbiton are both schools we have looked at for our daughter this year. I think the biggest difference is class size and clubs/opportunities. I read a lot about it and class size is one of the main things that impacts results, so for us, we have settled on private. The girls who we met at Sutton said their classes are 20 and at Surbiton it was about 23. We looked at Manor House too which was more like 18, but doesn’t have a sixth form. I think it’s just basic maths really - if there are 30 in a class (there are 32 in some classes at the local grammar near us) then with 20 in a class the kids surely get a third more time from the teacher.
